Chiefs Acquire Cam Erving From Browns For 5th Round Pick

Aug 30, 2017 8:00 PM

The Kansas City Chiefs have acquired Cam Erving from the Cleveland Browns for a fifth round pick in 2018.

Erving was a first round pick on the offensive line in 2015.

From 2007 through 2016 the Browns took 13 players in the first round of the draft. Three are still with the team.

The Chiefs are set in their starting lineup at both tackle positions, right guard and center for the foreseeable future, with all four players being signed at least through 2018. The only opening for Erving in the starting lineup would possibly be at left guard; last year's starter, Parker Ehinger, has yet to play in the preseason after tearing his ACL last year.

Browns Open To Trading Joe Haden

Aug 29, 2017 1:57 PM

The Cleveland Browns are listening to trade offers for Joe Haden.

Haden is due to be paid $11.1 million this season, and $11.2 million and $10.4 million in 2018 and '19. Any team that acquires Haden would have to accept those salaries.

Haden is a former Pro Bowler at cornerback but hasn't been named to the team since 2014.

"This is the time of year where everything starts happening, things start getting said," said Hue Jackson. "Obviously I don't know that, but we'll deal with those things as we move forward."

Browns Name DeShone Kizer Starter For Third Preseason Game

Aug 24, 2017 8:25 AM

The Cleveland Browns have named rookie DeShone Kizer their starting quarterback for Saturday's third preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

It's the latest indication that Kizer is the favorite to start for the Browns in Week 1.

"He has made a lot of progress by investing the time necessary to learn our offense, working hard to improve on his fundamentals while also effectively moving the offense in preseason games," Hue Jackson said of the rookie.

"Development is so important for a young quarterback, this is the next step he needs to take and he deserves this opportunity. We are very excited about seeing DeShone in the role of starter for this week, as he is certainly positioning himself well to earn the starting job heading into the regular season."

Browns Hope To Name Starting QB On Wednesday

Aug 22, 2017 9:21 AM

Hue Jackson hopes to name his starting quarterback on Wednesday.

Brock Osweiler has started the first two preseason games for the Cleveland Browns. It remains to be seen if Osweiler or rookie DeShone Kizer will start the third exhibition.

"I will watch the tape," Jackson said. "There were some things that I felt on the sidelines just being out there watching the game, calling the plays and watching how things happen. Like I told you guys, I hope by Wednesday of this upcoming week we will have a decision of where we are headed, and I think that is what we have to do. ...

"I kind of want to put this thing to bed by Wednesday. I kind of want to say, 'Here is where we are going' because I think this upcoming game, we will play a little longer with the first group because I think it is important to do so and have as many guys that are going to play in the opener playing because this is the dress rehearsal game. I would like to put this thing to bed and just move forward in that direction, and whatever decision we make, we make. We want to make the best one for the Browns."

12 Browns Players Kneel Over Racial, Social Injustice

Aug 22, 2017 1:15 PM

A dozen Cleveland Browns players, including Seth DeValve, took a knee in prayer during the national anthem before Monday night's preseason game.

Several other players placed a hand on a kneeling teammate's shoulder in support.

"There's a lot of racial and social injustices in the world that are going on right now," rookie Jabrill Peppers said. "We just decided to take a knee and pray for the people who have been affected and just pray for the world in general."

DeValve, who became the first known white NFL player to take a knee during the national anthem, said recent events in Charlottesville, Virginia, had a lot to do with the decision. The tight end said it was also more involved. His wife, Erica, is African-American.

"I myself will be raising children that don't look like me, and I want to do my part as well to do everything I can to raise them in a better environment than we have right now," DeValve said. "So I wanted to take the opportunity with my teammates during the anthem to pray for our country and also to draw attention to the fact that we have work to do."

NFL Not Currently Considering Josh Gordon's Reinstatement

Aug 17, 2017 2:02 PM

Roger Goodell said the NFL is not currently considering the reinstatement of Josh Gordon.

Gordon hasn't played a regular season game since 2014 and his reinstatement petition in May was denied.

Gordon participated in preseason before the 2016 season.

The Browns would welcome Gordon back to the team even though they've largely moved on from him.

Joe Thomas Believes Browns 'Grooming Brock' Osweiler To Start

Aug 17, 2017 5:37 PM

The Cleveland Browns haven't named their starting quarterback for Week 1, but Joe Thomas has an idea of who will get the job.

"I think they're grooming Brock [Osweiler] to be the starter Week 1," Thomas told reporters Wednesday. "I don't expect DeShone Kizer to be the starter week one."

The left tackle added: "Just because DeShone might be good in a few years doesn't mean he's ready now."

Hue Jackson announced Wednesday he will start Osweiler against the New York Giants on Monday. Kizer will get No. 2 reps with Cody Kessler slated to take snaps third.

Brock Osweiler Will Start Cleveland's First Preseason Game

Aug 7, 2017 2:05 PM

Brock Osweiler will take the first snaps for the Cleveland Browns in their first preseason game.

Osweiler will start Thursday's game against the New Orleans Saints. Hue Jackson says that DeShone Kizer will be third in line, after Cody Kessler.

"A lot goes into our evaluation, but it's always going to be about efficiently and effectively running the offense," Jackson said in a statement. "You want your starter to be able to do that despite any circumstance. Brock hasn't really gotten any first-team reps, and this will give him that chance. We look forward to seeing what he can do with this opportunity throughout the week and against the Saints."
