Browns Take DeShone Kizer 52nd After Passing On QB Three Times In 1st

Apr 29, 2017 12:01 PM

The Cleveland Browns declined to select a quarterback with any of their three first round picks but selected DeShone Kizer 52nd overall.

The Browns have started 26 different quarterbacks since 1999. Cleveland also inquired about the availability of Jimmy Garoppolo.

"I do think there's a lot of potential and I think there's a lot of room for growth," Kizer told reporters after his selection. "My goal right now is to figure out a way to learn as much as I possibly can."

The Browns selected Myles Garrett, Jabrill Peppers and David Njoku in the first round.

Patriots Decline To Talk Jimmy Garoppolo Trade With Browns At Draft

Apr 29, 2017 12:09 AM

The Cleveland Browns called the New England Patriots during the first round of the draft about trading for Jimmy Garoppolo.

The Patriots again declined to engage in trade talks centered on Garoppolo.

The future of Garoppolo has been tied to how many more years Tom Brady will continue to play.

The Patriots could even use the franchise tag on Garoppolo next offseason as a backup to Brady.

Browns Will Select Myles Garrett First Overall

Apr 27, 2017 8:31 PM

The Cleveland Browns will select Myles Garrett with the first overall pick.

The Browns' top brass met on Thursday to solidify their plans even if it was a long time in the coming.

The Browns have interest in Mitchell Trubisky but will attempt to trade up for him instead of picking him first overall.

Garrett has been widely considered the top overall prospect in the draft as a franchise changing pass rusher.

Joe Thomas Suffering From Memory Loss

Apr 27, 2017 11:24 AM

Joe Thomas believes he is already suffering from memory loss at the age of 32.

"I definitely expect memory loss," Thomas said on "In Depth With Graham Bensinger." "I'm already seeing memory loss, and maybe that's just because of my old age or maybe it's football, it's hard to tell.

"I mean, there's no double-blind studies when it comes to people's life. It's just a part, I think, of sometimes getting older. And it's hard to tell it's because of football or because you're 32 and you're not 21 anymore and you have a lot of stuff going in your life."

Thomas was asked to describe the type of memory loss.

"Short-term memory loss -- hard times remembering things that have happened recently," he said. "Like, you walk to the grocery store and you're like, 'Huh, I can't remember what I needed to get.'

"Just little stuff like that, and I think if you let it really bug you, I think it can make you depressed and feel sad. Like, 'Wow, I don't have the memory I used to have.' But, you know, I try to be relatively good-natured about it at this point."

Thomas is entering his 11th season with the Browns.

Myles Garrett Remains Expected Pick For Browns At No. 1

Apr 27, 2017 4:45 PM

The Cleveland Browns remain likely to select Myles Garrett with the first overall pick.

The Browns haven't announced the pick and also like Mitch Trubisky. Cleveland has continued to try to trade up into the top-8 with Trubisky believed to be the target.

Sashi Brown told NFL Network's Mike Silver on Wednesday that he's known the pick for two weeks.

"You want to make sure that you get a player (at No. 1) that's going to be an impact player and that we can count on,'' Brown told ESPN.

Adam Schefter said on Wednesday that he wouldn't be surprised if Garrett is still the first player off the board, but "I have got very smart, very well-connected people telling me over the last 24 hours that they think Trubisky's going to be the No. 1 pick."

The Cleveland Browns, who own the No. 1 and No. 12 picks, have had discussions with at least three teams in the top eight about moving up.

The Browns are in need of a franchise quarterback and are expected to take Myles Garrett first overall. They could use the 12th pick and other assets to improve their second selection in order to take a quarterback.

Michael Silver of the NFL Network speculates that the Tennessee Titans, New York Jets and Carolina Panthers could move a pick to Cleveland.

The Cleveland Browns are still contemplating selecting Mitch Trubisky with the first overall pick.

Myles Garrett is the consensus top prospect in the 2017 NFL Draft.

The Browns also own the 12th overall pick but are unlikely to be able to pick Trubisky there.

The San Francisco 49ers could even select Trubisky at No. 2.
