Brock Osweiler hopes to be named the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns heading into this season.

"I want to be the starter of this team," Osweiler said.

Osweiler was a disappointment in his first season with the Houston Texans after signing a huge contract as a free agent.

It was initially believed that he would simply be released following a trade that sent him -- and Houston's second-round pick in 2018 -- to the Browns in what amounted to a complex and unusual salary dump.

Myles Garrett injured his foot during the Cleveland Browns' minicamp practice on Wednesday.

"That's part of the game," Hue Jackson said. "Obviously I don't want to get any of our players nicked, hurt, any of that. But hopefully things will be fine. We don't want to lose any player, especially not one of our really good players.

"But hopefully things will be OK, and I think they will be. I don't know that for sure but we'll find out as I go inside."

Garrett immediately went to the ground, kneeling with his head on the ground. Trainers checked him and he limped to the sidelines, where he again had his left foot checked without his shoe.

Garrett had missed some practice time in offseason work for an undisclosed issue that was not believed to be serious. 

The Cleveland Browns have acquired Calvin Pryor from the New York Jets for Demario Davis.

Davis was a starter for the Jets from 2013 until 2015.

The Jets had been trying to trade Pryor since the draft, when they selected Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye -- both safeties -- in the first two rounds.

The return of Davis gives the Jets three starting-caliber insider linebackers.

The Jets were planning to release Pryor, ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported. Pryor was the 18th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.

Hue Jackson is happy with what he's seen from Brock Osweiler during the second week of the Cleveland Browns' organized team activities.

"He's done a good job," Jackson said of Osweiler, who was acquired from the Houston Texans in March. "He works hard at it every day. He's into it. I think he really enjoys being here."

Osweiler is working with Cody Kessler, DeShone Kizer and Kevin Hogan as the Browns determine a starter.

Jackson admitted he heard all the criticisms of Osweiler, but called him a "pleasant surprise."
