LeSean McCoy: Colin Kaepernick Isn't Worth The Distraction

Aug 25, 2017 7:49 PM

LeSean McCoy doesn't think free-agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick is a good enough player to be worth the "distraction" of a team signing him to play.

"It's a lot more than just he's not on the team because he doesn't want to stand for the national anthem," McCoy said. "That may have something to do with it, but I think also it has a lot to do with his play. I'm sure a lot of teams wouldn't want him as their starting quarterback. That chaos that comes along with it, it's a lot.

"As a team, trying to win and not have a distraction on the team, I just take that as a player -- there's certain players that could be on the team with big distractions, and there's other players that it's not good enough or not worth it. I think his situation is not good enough to have him on the team with all the attention that comes along with it. I'm sure if a guy like [Tom] Brady or a guy like whoever is your favorite player -- Odell Beckham or a guy like that -- you'll deal with that attention and play him."

McCoy was then asked how Kaepernick's situation compares to that of Michael Vick, who became a Philadelphia Eagles teammate of McCoy in 2009 after spending time in prison on federal dogfighting charges.

"He's 10 times better than Kaepernick," McCoy said of Vick. "You'll deal with that situation, that attention, that media aspect of it. The good, the bad attention you'll get. Compared to Kaepernick, it's like, he's not really that good [enough] of a player to deal with.

"So people outside of sports don't really know that. They see only one side of black guy standing up for a good reason [and] the NFL is against him, but I think it's more than that. I think it has to do with some of that. But also, dealing with him with him on the team you're trying to build together. There's so many outsiders [that] can mess up a team. I can see both sides, I really can."

Bills Assure LeSean McCoy He Won't Be Traded

Aug 25, 2017 8:08 AM

The Buffalo Bills have assured LeSean McCoy that he won't be traded.

The Bills traded Sammy Watkins and Ronald Darby earlier this month.

"There's no trade talks," McCoy said Thursday. "I talked to my coaches. I talked to Sean and Brandon, the GM. I have a lot of respect for the guys. We had a great conversation. I'll leave it at that. One thing about it is everybody can have their own opinions or make up things. Nowadays with social media, everything is blown out of proportion.

"At the end of the day, the only thing I can do is control what I can control and that's being one of the best players in the NFL like I've been doing since I've been in the NFL. That's the only thing I can do. Trade me or not. Keep me here. Whatever it is. I talked to them guys and they said that's not on their radar and that's not in the plans. Only thing I can do is gear up for the Ravens and get ready to have a good year like I do every year."

The Philadelphia Eagles abruptly traded McCoy to the Bills in 2015.

"I've been in that position before," he said. "One thing with players being traded, it's like, 'Am I not good enough? Is there an issue? Am I a team guy?' I got traded before and I was second or third in rushing. It can't be the production. I'm a good team guy, so you can't worry about that.

"The biggest thing is being focused. Not letting it be a distraction. Best part about it is the guys we have here, especially in the upper office, we can talk to them and they're honest. I asked them about it and they said it's false. People making things up and it stirs it up. It is what it is."

Anquan Boldin Announces Retirement From Football

Aug 21, 2017 8:42 AM

After 14 seasons, Anquan Boldin has retired from football.

Boldin left the Buffalo Bills on Sunday just a few weeks after signing a contract.

"Football has afforded me a platform throughout my career to have a greater impact on my humanitarian work, and at this time, I feel drawn to make the larger fight for human rights a priority," Boldin said. "My life's purpose is bigger than football."

Boldin has spent parts of the past two years on Capitol Hill fighting for criminal justice reform. His cousin, Corey Jones, was shot to death by a plain-clothed police officer in 2015 after Jones' van broke down on the side of a South Florida highway.

The Los Angeles Rams have acquired Sammy Watkins from the Buffalo Bills for E.J. Gaines and a 2018 second round pick. The Rams will also acquire a sixth round pick from the Bills.

The Bills' decision to trade their top receiver and top cornerback for future draft picks signals that first-year general manager Brandon Beane and coach Sean McDermott view the Bills as a long-term rebuilding project.

Buffalo now owns two selections in the first, second and third rounds of the 2018 draft.

Aug 7, 2017 11:09 PM

Anquan Boldin has agreed upon a one-year, $2.75 million deal with the Buffalo Bills. Boldin's deal also includes incentives that could add $1.25 million on the deal.

Boldin agreed to terms last week but backed out of the deal before deciding to join the Bills this week.
