Karlos Williams, who was cut by the Buffalo Bills before the 2016 season following a promising rookie campaign, has been suspended by the NFL for a period of at least one year after a third substance-abuse violation, according to a league source.

Williams already had one game left on a 10-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy.

He is a free agent after being waived by the Pittsburgh Steelers this offseason.

Former NFL wide receiver James Hardy III's body was found in the Maumee River on Wednesday, according to the Allen County (Indiana) Coroner's Office.

Hardy's cause of death has not yet been determined. His mother reported him missing on May 30. He was 31.

Fred Jackson hasn't filed his retirement paperwork with the NFL because the 36-year-old believes he can still play despite going unsigned last season.

"I want to play, but it's one of those things where we'll see what happens," Jackson said. "Training camps are around the corner. Some teams lose a back or two and maybe they give me a call. We'll see what happens. I'm not ready to hang 'em up yet, but I do know that I'm 36 and a lot of teams are scared of that."

Jackson was one of the NFL's slowest running backs in 2015, which limited him to pass protection and checkdowns with the Seattle Seahawks.

John Riggins and Marcus Allen are the only running backs in NFL history to rush for 300 yards in a season at age 36 or older.

LeSean McCoy wants Jeremy Maclin to sign with the Buffalo Bills.

McCoy has been recruiting his former teammate to sign as a free agent.

"I know he could help us out tremendously," McCoy said at his charity softball game. "I've been doing my recruiting already, and don't be surprised if it happens."

The Kansas City Chiefs released Maclin last week after two seasons, saving them $10 million in salary-cap space.

McCoy and Maclin were teammates with the Philadelphia Eagles from 2009 through 2014.
