Fitzgerald Excited By Drafting Of Peterson

Sep 12, 2014 3:44 PM

The Cardinals are badly in need of a quarterback, but wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald was nonetheless excited by the drafting of cornerback Patrick Peterson on Thursday night. Arizona drafted Peterson with the fifth overall pick. "He's a can't-miss player, a real difference-maker, and that's exciting," Fitzgerald said. "Things have changed in this league. It's a receiver-quarterback game now. That's the name of the game and the wave of the future. We have to go against Sam Bradford twice a season. Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Matt Ryan, Aaron Rodgers, Peyton Manning -– the teams that have those guys are the teams that'll be in the thick of it every year. And you can't match up with these teams if you can't stop them outside."

Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald said Thursday that he's ready to help any teammate who's struggling financially as the NFL lockout hit its 41st day. "For my young guys (such as) Stephen Williams, Max Hall, Isaiah Williams -- all the guys that are on my team -- they know if they need anything, all they got to do is pick up the phone, and I'm going to be there for them and support them any way I can," Fitzgerald said. Others say they have returned payments to the NFL Players Association's lockout fund, which is doling out up to $60,000 to eligible players. The first checks were scheduled to be sent out last week.

Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald doesn't think the team will draft a quarterback in this month's NFL Draft. "I would doubt that we would draft a quarterback that high. I would doubt it," Fitzgerald told FoxSports. "But who am I? I'm just a player. Management hasn't told me if they are going to go in any direction." In February, Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt admitted to The Arizona Republic that he solicited Fitzgerald's advice about quarterbacks.
