Cardinals general manager Rod Graves says that contract talks with wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald and the team are "ongoing."
"Those negotiations with Larry Fitzgerald and his agent, Eugene Parker, are ongoing," Graves said at the NFL Scouting Combine. "At this point, I have all reasons to be optimistic ? and that?s more my personality than anything else.
"Larry means a lot to the football team ? I think that?s an understatement. We?re going to work and try and do everything we can to try and consummate the deal."
Fitzgerald's current contract runs through the 2012 season and pays him base salaries of $7 million in 2011 and $5 million the year after that.

Cardinals Name Miller O-Coordinator
Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt has completed the restructuring of his staff by promoting Mike Miller to offensive coordinator.
Miller has been on Arizona's staff since Whisenhunt took over in 2007, the first two years as wide receivers coach and the last two as passing game coordinator.
Kolb Flattered By Fitzgerald's Suggestion
Eagles quarterback Kevin Kolb told WIP AM last week that he was flattered to discover that wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald suggested him as Arizona's next starting quarterback.
Kolb, who wants to start next season, sounded thrilled at the prospect of pairing up with Fitzgerald.
"I mean, if he's not the best, he's one of the best receivers in the NFL, (a) superstar," Kolb said. "For a guy like that to say something about me, it means a lot. And it's awfully flattering, and I hope that if something happens, their name comes up."
According to ESPN earlier this month, Fitzgerald recommended the team pursue Kolb and Ravens backup Marc Bulger, who will be a free agent this offseason.
Cardinals, Horton Expected To Meet
The Cardinals are expected to meet with Steelers defensive backs coach Ray Horton to finalize a deal to become the team's defensive coordinator, according to league sources.
The two sides are expected to come to terms on a deal.
Arizona was reportedly interested in Steelers linebackers coach Keith Butler, but were denied permission to talk to him, according to a report.
Fitzgerald Not Deciding Arizona's QB
Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt says star wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald isn't deciding who the team will pursue at quarterback.
Whisenhunt admitted that he's discussed the position with Fitzgerald, but the receiver wasn't given any special allowances.
"You're very aware that we have an open-door policy," Whisenhunt said. "We solicit input from players on a lot of things, game plans, plays, travel to the East Coast. Things in training camp. When I was interviewed (in 2007), they had players who were a portion of the interviews.
"Larry and I talked about a number of things. I've talked to other players as well."
ESPN reported Sunday morning that the Cardinals had solicited Fitzgerald's opinions about the position and that the Eagles' Kevin Kolb was Fitzgerald's top recommendation.
"Larry is obviously not making the decisions," Whisenhunt said. "There's a lot of things that guys want that they don't necessarily get. That's why I have individual meetings with them to get their ideas.
"It would make sense to at least talk to some of your players."
Cardinals Pursue Steelers Assistant For DC Job
The Cardinals are pursuing Steelers linebackers coach Keith Butler for their vacant defensive coordinator position, according to league sources.
Butler is the coach-in-waiting behind Dick LeBeau as Pittsburgh's defensive coordinator, but he is intrigued by Arizona's opening.
A Steelers source said the team likely would not block the move.
Cardinals Ask Fitzgerald's Opinion On Quarterback
The Cardinals have approached star wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald to ask his opinion on the team's quarterback situation.
Arizona asked Fitzgerald which quarterback they should pursue via free agency or trade, according to league sources.
Fitzgerald's first recommendation was Philadelphia's Kevin Kolb, who the Eagles are expected to shop, but he also mentioned free-agent-to-be Marc Bulger.
The wide receiver is entering the final year of his contract.
Cardinals Interested In Pittsburgh's LB Coach As D-Coordinator
The Cardinals are interested in naming Steelers linebackers coach Keith Butler their defensive coordinator, according to a source.
Butler is presumed to be the defensive coordinator in waiting in Pittsburgh, but he is very close to Arizona's Ken Whisenhunt.
