Michael Floyd Had .217 BAC, Could Face Jail Time

Dec 22, 2016 8:16 AM

When Michael Floyd was arrested in his vehicle on Dec. 12, he had a blood-alcohol level of .217, which could land him in jail.

Floyd was arrested and charged in Scottsdale after he fell asleep in the driver's seat of his vehicle while stopped at a traffic signal. He has been charged with more serious offenses due to the results of his BAC test, which were revealed Wednesday.

He was released by the Arizona Cardinals after the arrest, but claimed on waivers by the New England Patriots.

Arizona state law carries harsh penalties, including jail time, for having a blood alcohol level over .15 and even tougher penalties for a BAC over .20.

Only Steelers Rank In Top-10 In Offense, Defense DVOA (Infographic)

Dec 21, 2016 10:38 AM

The NFL has very teams this season that excel in all facets of the game. Further evidence of this issue shows itself in the fact that there is only one team ranking in the top-10 in both Football Outsiders' Offensive and Defensive DVOA: the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers are 9-5 after winning five straight games and must beat the Baltimore Ravens in Week 16 to ensure their place in the playoffs. Pittsburgh ranks third in total DVOA and first in Weighted DVOA.

Last season, the Seattle Seahawks, Carolina Panthers, Arizona Cardinals, Cincinnati Bengals and Kansas City Chiefs ranked in the top-10 on both sides of the ball. The Chiefs are the closest team to joining the Steelers in the top-10 in both Offensive and Defensive DVOA at 13th and 12th.

The Dallas Cowboys and New England Patriots rank first and second overall in DVOA as they rank second and third, respectively in Offensive DVOA but 20th and 19th in Defensive DVOA. The Atlanta Falcons rank first in Offensive DVOA, 27th in Defensive and fourth overall. The Green Bay Packers and Oakland Raiders have similar splits as the Cowboys and Patriots, while the Seahawks, Baltimore Ravens and New York Giants are the inverse of those teams with top-5 defenses and offenses below the NFL mean.

Larry Fitzgerald Hints He May Play Elsewhere In 2017

Dec 21, 2016 11:15 AM

During an interview with Jim Gray on Westwood One, Larry Fitzgerald hinted that he may play for a team other than the Arizona Cardinals next season.

"No, I wouldn't say that I'm contemplating [retirement] right now," Fitzgerald said. "But I'm uncertain what I'm going to do moving forward. But I still love the game, I love the competition. I love being around the guys and competing for a championship. That's a lot of fun to me, and that's kind of where I’m at right now."

The question will be whether Fitzgerald believes the Cardinals, who have disappointed this season, can compete in 2017.

David Johnson Has Chance At Rare 1,000/1,000 Season

Dec 14, 2016 4:39 PM

David Johnson has a chance to do something only two players have done in NFL history -- accumulate 1,000 rushing and 1,000 receiving yards in the same season.

Roger Craig did it in 1985 with the San Francisco 49ers and Marshall Faulk reached the marks with the St. Louis Rams in 1999.

Johnson already has 1,085 rushing yards and with three games to go he needs 255 receiving yards to surpass 1,000 for the season. He is averaging 57.3 receiving yards per game in 2016.

Craig finished third in the MVP voting in 1985, while Faulk ended up second to teammate Kurt Warner in 1999.

Fitzgerald Not Planning On Playing Long Enough To Catch Rice, Gonzalez

Dec 8, 2016 10:51 PM

Larry Fitzgerald doesn't expect to play long enough to catch Jerry Rice and Tony Gonzalez on the all-time receptions list.

While Fitzgerald insisted he wasn't announcing a pending retirement, the math shows he could be heading there soon.

He's 220 receptions away from passing Gonzalez, who has 1,325 career catches. Fitzgerald is on pace to finish this season with a career-high 117 catches after setting a career high with 109 in '15.

If Fitzgerald, who's in his 13th season and is tied for the NFL lead with 88 catches, were to finish with 117, he would head into next season needing 191 to pass Gonzalez for No. 2 all time and 415 to pass Rice, whose 1,549 catches rank first.

Fitzgerald could theoretically catch Gonzalez sometime in 2018.

"I don't plan on playing that long to catch those guys," Fitzgerald said.
