NFL Scoop: 32-Team Week 12 Reactions

Aug 5, 2014 12:43 PM

The AFC The Buddy Nix Brian Galliford of Buffalo Rumblings: “After landing on IR with a broken fibula last week, Buffalo Bills running back Fred Jackson has been informed that he's no longer eligible to compete in the 2011 Pro Bowl.” The Jeff Ireland Armando Salguero of The Miami Herald: “When last we convened seven days ago, the Dolphins had hopes of running the table en route to a 9-7 season. There were whispers the team had found a quarterback. There was a movement among some fans that maybe, just maybe, this administration was right all along and it might merit another year.” The Jonathan Kraft Greg Knopping of Pats Pulpit: “When it comes to evaluating the play of quarterback Tom Brady, people usually expect the very best. And considering the torrid start that Brady had at the beginning of the 2011 NFL season, it's not hard to reason why people have expected so much for the majority of this season.” The Mike Tannenbaum Gang Green Nation: “It seemed like [Darrelle] Revis was not being overly physical at the line. He was shading hard to the outside to take away the sideline and force Johnson back inside. The Bills executed well on a lot of slants. Revis was not necessarily in terrible coverage for most of them. They were just good throws and catches. It was good execution as much as anything.” The Ozzie Newsome Bruce Raffel of Baltimore Beatdown: “Former Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns owner Art Modell was overlooked by voters for the Pro Football Hall of Fame once again. In fact, Modell was not even one of the 26 semi-finalists for the class of 2012 that will be narrowed down through voting to 15 finalists and the Class of 2012 will be announced just before Super Bowl XLVI on Saturday, February 4, 2012.” The Mike Brown Josh Kirkendall of Cincy Jungle: “Just before he's getting buried by defensive tackle Ahtyba Rubin (we think we got that right), Andy Dalton threw the football down the middle of the field where A.J. Green jumped into the air and converted the third down 51 yards over his archenemies Joe Haden, pushed out of bounds at the Browns two-yard line. Mike Nugent would convert the game-winning field goal later.” The Tom Heckert Chris Pokorny of Dawgs By Nature: “The Cleveland Browns waived long snapper Ryan Pontbriand today after nine years with the team, including two Pro Bowl selections in 2007 and 2008.” The Kevin Colbert Neal Coolong of Behind The Steel Curtain: “[Troy] Polamalu will be subjected to cognitive tests to determine whether the injury will prevent him from playing in the key divisional match-up in Pittsburgh. The Steelers (8-3) are tied for the best record in the AFC, but sit behind Baltimore for the top of the AFC North by virtue of Baltimore's two wins over Pittsburgh this year.” The Rick Smith Battle Red Blog: “Normally, I'd mockingly remark that we're in big trouble if Jake Delhomme, QB3 for your Houston Texans, ever sees a snap of live action, but odds are that he's playing no later than December 11th in Cincinnati after T.J. Yates, Kellen Clemens, Cody Carlson, and Bucky Richardson are lost to season-ending injuries.” The Chris Polian : “Why this wasn't done before the Bye week, giving [Dan] Orlovsky two full weeks to prepare for probably the most winnable game left on the schedule is beyond me, but I'll take any sign of trying something new as a positive.” The Gene Smith Adam Stites of Big Cat Country: “With today came news that came as a shock to no one. After 139 games over nine seasons with the Jaguars, Jack Del Rio's time as head coach came to an end this morning. His 68-71 career record with the Jaguars represents the most games any NFL head coach has ever coached in a single tenure that finished with a losing record.” The Mike Reinfeldt August West of Music City Miracles: “The guys at FO have released their Quick Reads column for week 12, and there were a few Titans-related surprises. As I'm guessing you noticed in the headline, Matt Hasselbeck's performance graded out as the 34th worst of the week. I know he was really bad, and the passing attack in general has been in a slump, but I didn't expect it to be this bad.” The Brian Xanders Mile High Report: “On Defense, it's no surprise that the Game Ball should go to Von Miller. Von has lived up to every measure of a #2 overall draft pick and quite likely will end up with a Rookie of the Year Award as well as a Pro Bowl nod. The young Linebacker had a 10 Tackle day, adding another Sack, 2 Tackles for a Loss and a hit on Chargers Quarterback Philip Rivers.” The Scott Pioli Patrick Allen of Arrowhead Addict: “Ever since the Kansas City Chiefs claimed QB Kyle Orton off of waivers from the Denver Broncos, the writing has been on the wall. Kyle Orton will be the starting QB for the Kansas City Chiefs.” The Al Davis Silver and Black Pride: “The Raiders really need to move on Jack Del Rio as their DC. There's no question in my mind his leadership and defensive intelligence would take our defense up several notches. Moreover, the simplicity of our system could be absorbed in short order.” The Dean Spanos John Gennaro of Bolts From The Blue: “With major changes on the way for the San Diego Chargers, including a new Head Coach and possibly an all-new coaching staff, we as fans need to consider all of the possibilities of what could happen to this team. When looking at the different coaching candidates (Bill Cowher, Mike Zimmer, Jeff Fisher, Chuck Pagano, etc.), we need to consider that some of these guys prefer the 4-3 defense over the 3-4 defense that San Diego currently runs.” The NFC The Stephen Jones The Landry Hat: “About this time every year I like to start to identify those Cowboys players I believe are the core of the team. Those players that are synonymous with the Dallas Cowboys, whether by the irreplaceable quality of their play or their identity as the faces of the Franchise.” The Jerry Reese Ed Valentine of SB Nation: “Tiki Barber -- remember him? -- is at it once again, using a media forum to take shots at New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin. Barber wrote today that Coughlin has an agenda, and that "his messages sometimes fit "his" agenda, not "our" agenda.” The Howie Roseman Bleeding Green Nation: “We started doing this top five defensive plays series the week after the Giants game, which was great because the Eagles defense played fantastic in that game. However, against the Patriots, I think we would struggle to find one good example of a defensive play worth praising.” The Bruce Allen Hogs Haven: “Over the course of this season much has been made about Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, his system and his play-calling. With the Redskins having a 3-7 record going into Seattle and struggling to get anything going on offense, fans had started to question whether this system was out-dated and if Kyle was calling the wrong plays.” The Jerry Angelo Lester A. Wiltfong Jr. of Windy City Gridiron: “I'm sure Mike Martz would like to have that second quarter 2nd and 1 call back. You know the one, the Bears were on the Raiders 7 yard line with just 35 seconds remaining. Martz called that throw back pass to Kellen Davis, and the Raiders didn't bite at all. “ The Martin Mayhew Sean Yuille of Pride Of Detroit: “Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford practiced without gloves today, indicating his injured finger has healed to the point that wearing a splint is no longer necessary. The reason he was wearing gloves was to grip the ball since the splint made it difficult. Now that the gloves are gone, hopefully his inconsistent play as of late will disappear as well.” The Mark Murphy Acme Packing Company: “Like any good leader, Mike McCarthy set out a list of goals for this team to accomplish on their way to the ultimate goal of repeating as Super Bowl Champions. Unfortunately I don't know what exactly those goals are, but I do have a good guess.” The Mark Wilf Mike Kaszuba od Star Tribune: “Despite reiterating that the team was pledged to building a new stadium in Ramsey County, the Minnesota Vikings agreed Tuesday to meet with Minneapolis officials one more time to explore staying in the state’s largest city.” The Thomas Dimitroff The Falcoholic: “Will Svitek has played exceptionally well at left tackle. He's had, by my very informal count, a handful of holding calls and no sacks allowed over five starts. In that time, he's faced off against Dwight Freeney, Jared Allen and Kyle Vanden Bosch. None of those guys are slouches.” The Marty Hurney Cat Scratch Reader: “Why not bring him back to Charlotte to coach the defense? I think he would be an upgrade over what we have now. Plus, he knows Charlotte and the Panthers. The big Cat should give him a call and see if he is interested. He was always better as a coordinator than as the head coach.” The Mickey Loomis Dave Cariello of Canal Street Chronicles: “Here's the abridged version: Saints ran the ball incredibly well. Drew Brees is the greatest quarterback ever. Jimmy Graham is the greatest tight end ever. Lance Moore and Marques Colston are the greatest wide receivers ever. Pierre Thomas is the greatest running back ever. Welcome back Tracy Porter. Jo-Lonn Dunbar needs to play more. Defense plays well when it creates turnovers. To put it even simpler: the Saints are the second best team in the NFC and possibly the NFL.” The Mark Dominik Bucs Nation: “The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have lost five straight games. They haven't lost that many games in a row since week 10 through 14 of the 2009 season. In that season they had no chance of making the playoffs and were working hard at getting a top 5 draft pick. This year, they seem to be working on a top 10 draft pick despite starting out the season with a 4-2 record and the division lead. But do the Bucs still have a shot at making the playoffs, despite now losing their fifth game in a row?” The Rod Graves Seth Pollack of SB Nation: “Patrick Peterson may some day be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, OH. It's a tad early yet to call the Arizona Cardinals rookie a "lock" for the prestigious honor but he's already got one foot in the door. Or two shoes to be factually correct.” The Billy Devaney Ryan Van Bibber of Turf Show Times: “St. Louis Rams fans will recognize a couple of the names that are rumored to be in the mix for some college head coaching vacancies. Former Rams head coach and current Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Mike Martz is rumored to be interested in the Arizona State job. Former Rams head coach and current Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Scott Linehan is rumored to be in the mix for the head coaching vacancy at Washington State.” The Trent Baalke David Fucillo Of Niners Nation: “[Braylon] Edwards is dealing with some sort of AC joint issue and even coach Harbaugh has admitted Braylon is not 100%. He hasn't looked “all there” on the field and he really hasn't developed into the big play threat the 49ers were hoping for when they signed him on the cheap in August. He currently has 14 catches for 172 yards as he tries to shake off the injury bug that has dogged him all year.” The John Schneider Danny Kelly of Field Gulls: “Screen passes, in general, rely less on smash-mouth football and more on slight of hand, misdirection, timing and finesse. Oftentimes you need to have a little luck when it comes to the opposing defensive call. I've talked about the Seahawks' use of the screen pass a little bit here this season - Marshawn Lynch and Justin Forsett had some success with it back in week four against the Falcons that I thought was encouraging - but in general the screen has been anything but the Seahawks' bread and butter.’

Peterson Ties Record With Fourth Punt Return TD

Oct 31, 2014 8:41 AM

Patrick Peterson took a punt 80 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter to give the Cardinals a 20-10 lead over the Rams on Sunday afternoon. The rookie cornerback won the last game between the Cardinals and Rams with a punt return touchdown in overtime. His touchdown was his fourth of the season on a punt return, tying him for the NFL single season record. Devin Hester, Rick Upchurch and Jack Christiansen also achieved the feat. Peterson is the only one of the four to go 80 or more yards on each of his returns.

Skelton Will 'Probably' Start Over Kolb

Jun 9, 2014 10:29 AM

Cardinals quarterback Kevin Kolb is officially questionable for Sunday's game against the Rams, but it doesn't sound like coach Ken Whisenhunt plans to have his starter available. Whisenhunt said that backup John Skelton, who has started the last three games in place of the injured Kolb, "is probably gonna go tomorrow" against the Rams. It's been thought all week that Kolb would be a game-time decision for the Cardinals after he took part in a limited portion of practice all three days this week.

NFL Scoop: 32-Team Week 11 Reactions

Jul 28, 2014 10:01 PM

The AFC The Buddy Nix Brian Galliford of Buffalo Rumblings: "The Buffalo Bills signed quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick to what is effectively a seven-year, $62 million contract on October 28. The deal guaranteed Fitzpatrick $24 million -- $10 million of which has already been paid -- and will pay him $33 million in base salary in the first three years of the deal. When Fitzpatrick signed the contract, he was in the midst of putting together a career year." The Jeff Ireland Omar Kelly of The South Florida Sun-Sentinel: "Fred Jackson came into Sunday's game as the NFL's leading rusher, the talk of the league. Buffalo's leading rusher was on the doorstep of surpassing the 1,000 yard rushing threshold. But he'll have to wait another week." The Jonathan Kraft Richard Hill of Pats Pulpit: "And just like that ... the Patriots are back in the 1st Seed of the AFC." The Mike Tannenbaum Gang Green Nation: "The stats and progressions, as well as the problems and complaints, are remarkably similar for all 3 players through Year 3. Remember when David Carr was gonna be a star? Remember when Eli manning wasn't the answer? Made too many mistakes, had happy feet, was regressing, etc.?" The Ozzie Newsome Bruce Raffel of Baltimore Beat Down: "Baltimore rookie wide receiver Torrey Smith had six catches for 165 yards and a touchdown in the Ravens' 31-24 win over Cincinnati. Smith joins Ken Burrow (two in 1971) and Randy Moss (three in 1998) as the only rookies to have multiple games with at least 150 receiving yards and a touchdown catch since 1970." The Mike Brown Joe Reedy of The Cincinnati Enquirer: “The Calvin Johnson rule has caused heartache for many teams over the past two seasons. On Sunday, it was the Bengals' turn to be bitten by it. With 5 minutes, 43 seconds remaining in the game, Jermaine Gresham appeared to have a 9-yard touchdown catch from Andy Dalton to bring the Bengals within a field goal. Gresham beat Ravens cornerback Cary Williams in single coverage near the left sideline, caught it at the Ravens 3, bobbled it but hauled it in at the 1 as he crossed the plane.” The Tom Heckert Dawgs By Nature: “Our offense is bad. The good news is we were able to see some success between the 20s last week against a fairly poor Rams defense that only got worse with injuries during our game. Our weak point last week was easily red zone offense, as evidenced by four Phil Dawson field goals and zero touchdowns. Contrary to frustrated fan opinion, we did try to pass the ball in to the endzone on multiple occasions, we just couldn't execute.” The Kevin Colbert Scott Brown of The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: “With injuries as much an unpleasant fact of life in the NFL as TV timeouts, the Steelers have needed players like Chris Hoke to embrace the designation that coach Mike Tomlin assigns to those on the 53-man roster: starters and starters-in-waiting.” The Rick Smith John McClain of The Houston Chronicle: “Bryant Johnson and kicker Neil Rackers played with Leinart at Arizona. Rackers kicked for the Cardinals during Leinart’s four seasons (2006-09). “We’re in good hands,” Rackers said. Because the Texans have the NFL’s third-ranked running game and top-ranked defense, Leinart isn’t being placed in a situation where he has to throw 40 times to win or has to try to win the game by himself.” The Chris Polian Nate Dunlevy of 18to88.com: “The 1997 Colts were the worst team in football. They lost the first 10 games of the year. The 1999 Colts were one of the best teams in football, winning 11 games in a row. What changed between 1997 and 1999? How did the Colts manage to turn over the whole roster to go from also-ran to contender in just two seasons? Surely, there must have been a major influx of talent that made the difference.” The Gene Smith Alfie Crow of Big Cat Country: “The Jacksonville Jaguars currently lead the Cleveland Browns 7-0, thanks to a long nice drive by Blaine Gabbert and Maurice Jones-Drew. Jones-Drew wound up punching the ball in for a touchdown on the drive, but decided to troll the city of Cleveland with his touchdown celebration by doing the LeBron James chalk toss.” The Mike Reinfeldt Hank Koebler IV of Music City Miracles: “Time to stop making excuses and pulling punches. Chris Johnson has been nothing short of god-awful this season. Yes, the offensive line has had issues with run-blocking, but it was an inconsistent run-blocking unit last season, too. Yes, he had a great game against the Panthers last week, but an old woman pushing a walker can get 100 yards against the Panthers’ defense.” The Brian Xanders Tim Lynch of Mile High Report: “Tim Tebow mania. Why not call it Broncomania? For that is what it is. The way Tim Tebow wins football games is the way Broncos have won most of their games in the past 30 years. Yes, this is nothing new to the seasoned Broncomaniac, because we've been here before.” The Scott Pioli Patrick Allen of Arrowhead Addict: “Tyler Palko has an up and down game. He did some things very well but also threw a few errant passes that led to three New England interceptions. It was obvious as the night went on that the Chiefs just didn’t have the talent to hang with the Patriots. The injuries have mounted up on the Chiefs and as they now fall to 4-6, their season is slowly starting to turn into one of evaluation.” The Al Davis Silver & Black Pride: “Michael Bush continued to run the ball and run himself into a nice paycheck from someone next year. DHB and Kevin Boss were heavily targeted for the first time in the Carson Palmer era and acquitted themselves well (save one DHB drop that brought back memories of the bad old days).” The Dean Spanos Steve Adler of Bolts From The Blue: “The Chargers traveled to the windy city in hopes of breaking a four game losing streak. As loses have piled up, the frustration of the fan base has increased. Coming into Sunday, I was having a hard time remembering a time when the fan base was so defeated.” The NFC The Stephen Jones The Landry Hat: “After another great game Sunday, where Romo went 23/37 292 yards and 3 TD’s and zero INT’s (for a 3rd straight game) as Dallas won 27 to 24 in OT, the case can easily be made that Tony Romo can claim the month of November for himself.” The Jerry Reese Ed Valentine of Big Blue View: “For the second consecutive week there was no fourth-quarter magic for the New York Giants. Instead, the Giants suffered a second straight disappointing loss Sunday night, falling to the Philadelphia Eagles, 17-10. The loss drops the Giants (6-4) into a first-place tie in the NFC East with the Dallas Cowboys. Most of the game was about offensive ineptitude for the Giants, who couldn't run the ball, couldn't catch it and couldn't seem to block anyone.” The Howie Roseman Bleeding Green Nation: “The Eagles have choked up five fourth quarter leads this season and as they headed into the final frame of this one, it looked as though it was going to happen again. Eli Manning led the Giants on a 5 play, 73 yard drive to tie the game at 10 all and it looked like the weekly collapse was on. But then, something pretty amazing happened.” The Bruce Allen Kevin Ewoldt of Hogs Heaven: “OK, so just when we've all but given up on the Redskins, they reel us back in with a first half lead, send the Cowboys to overtime....and find a way to lose.” The Jerry Angelo Steven Schweickert of Windy City Gridiron: “The running game really struggled early on, and while Matt Forte and Marion Barber started getting a few better carries in the fourth quarter, the Chargers really came to stop the run. Seemed like lots of times the linebackers and safeties were brought in to stop the run while the receivers got to work in one-on-one situations, which even this collection of receivers can work with.” The Martin Mayhew Sean Yuille of Pride of Detroit: “Things weren't looking good early on, but the Lions battled back to beat the Panthers by a score of 49-35. Detroit is now 7-3 and can guarantee its first .500 or better season since 2000 with one more victory in 2011.” The Mark Murphy Acme Packing Company: “Between first down run by Tim Masthay, the first missed field goal of the season by Mason Crosby, and the nearly botched onside kick by rookie D.J. Smith, it was a weird game. Randall Cobb also had a 55 yard punt return, so I guess I'd say overall it was a positive game.” The Mark Wilf Christopher Gates of Daily Norseman: “It would have really been pretty easy for the Minnesota Vikings to have folded up the tents at halftime of their game against the Oakland Raiders on Sunday afternoon. After all, they had just allowed two touchdowns in a very short span of time, they had allowed 24 unanswered points to the Raiders, and had watched their superstar offensive player get helped off of the field.” The Thomas Dimitroff Dave Choate of The Falcoholic: “It's never easy with this team, but sometimes it doesn't have to be. The Falcons played a terrific game on defense aside from a couple of hiccups and got fantastic offensive performances out of Matt Ryan, Michael Turner and Roddy White, among others. It was enough to propel them to a 23-17 win over the Tennessee Titans, who rallied furiously behind rookie quarterback Jake Locker but couldn't close it out.” The Marty Hurney Cat Scratch Reader: “Cam Newton looked like a rookie again. The run defense got tired and Matt Stafford lit up the Panther secondary. Yet in spite of giving up the lead they came back and tied the game with just 5 minutes remaining. I was thinking maybe we could hold on and force over time. Just the opposite happened and the Lions scored 14 more points to punch the Panthers in the gut and leave Detroit feeling worse about the loss than they should.” The Mickey Loomis Canal Street Chronicles: “With the break in Saints game action this week as a result of the bye, it makes an opportune time to take brief stock and see where the team is in relation to the 2010 squad, whose season was decent (11-5 and a playoff berth), but ended in Seattle on Wild Card Weekend in most disappointing fashion.” The Mark Dominik Bucs Nation: “In the end, the Buccaneers lost by nine points. And despite all that, this was probably the Bucs' best game of the year in terms of quality of play.” The Rod Graves Jess Root of Revenge of the Birds: “Larry Fitzgerald only had three catches, but with his first one, he passed 9000 career receiving yards, making him the third youngest in NFL history to reach that plateau. Milestones are always a positive, especially when it is a player that will have a bust in Canton one day.” The Billy Devaney Ryan Van Bibber of Turf Show Times: “The St. Louis Rams are officially a disaster. The fans who showed up at the Edward Jones Dome today to watch the game no doubt thought about that as they filed out, at the start of the fourth quarter with the Rams buried by an insurmountable 17-7 lead.” The Trent Baalke David Fucillo of Niners Nation: “The defense almost pitched a shutout, but let up a bit late and gave up an impressive touchdown pass to Larry Fitzgerald. Other than that, the defense put together a fairly ridiculous performance, forcing five turnovers and generally making the Cardinals offense look pretty awful.” The John Schneider Danny Kelly of Field Gulls: “The Seahawks started off with a bang on their first play from scrimmage with an end-around throw by Sidney Rice that went for 55-yards to Mike Williams. Tarvaris Jackson threw it two times after that and both times the St. Louis Rams caught those passes and that tells the story of the Seahawks offense in the first quarter. Seattle trailed 7-0 after the first frame.”

Mornhinweg: Kolb Didn't Help Cardinals By Calling Out Plays

Jun 9, 2014 10:30 AM

Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg believes Kevin Kolb is giving himself too much credit for his role in Arizona's victory last Sunday. Kolb admitted that he called out some of his former team's offensive plays late in the game. "Yeah, that's a story you know to anticipate," Mornhinweg said. "An ex-player that's on another ballclub and he's injured and wants so badly to be a part of a win." Mornhinweg pointed out that Kolb, whom the Eagles traded to the Cardinals before the season, had very little opportunity to undermine his offense. "In the two-minute (offense), if I remember right, we only called two plays on the line. We completed the third down and then dropped a big one," Mornhinweg said. "So, I think you know to anticipate those kind of things. We do a pretty good job self-scout(ing), and they saw very little of anything that they saw before as far as formations and motions and shifts. "It's clear on film," Mornhinweg added. "Also, I think that sort of stuff is sort of overrated. You put yourself in that corner position, and some guy on the sidelines is yelling out at you something. You got to trust yourself and your reads and all that. That's overblown quite a little bit, and I did go back through it. You know where you have to be careful is where a team locks you down and doesn't say anything. That's where you have to be careful with a guy that talks. I did check that. There was absolutely no effect."

Gore Expects To Play Against Cardinals

Oct 30, 2014 11:19 AM

Running back Frank Gore said his injured right knee has healed and he expects to revive his chase of San Francisco records Sunday against the Cardinals, the same team that ended his season last year with a fractured hip. "Things happen for a reason," Gore said. "I'm back and I'll be ready."

Kolb Called Out Philadelphia's Plays From Sideline

Sep 15, 2014 9:33 PM

Cardinals quarterback Kevin Kolb may have been traded from the Eagles, but he still knows their playbook very well. "During the two-minute drill, you almost feel guilty," Kolb said with a laugh. "[Michael Vick's] sitting there giving the signals, and I'm standing there on our sidelines, screaming at our corners, 'Hey it's a go ball, hey he's running a screen, hey he's running a slant.'" While this might appear to be a gross oversight by Eagles head coach Andy Reid, Kolb said taking knowledge of one team's playbook to a new home is commonplace. Kolb believes that he only helped the Cardinals "just a little bit here and there." "How much of an effect do I really have?" Kolb said. "I'm screaming to one guy. He may hear me, he may not. Luckily for us at that point (likely the end of the game), the crowd was pretty dead and some of our guys could maybe hear it."

Kolb Won't Start, But Could Play Against Eagles

Oct 30, 2014 11:39 AM

The Cardinals will not start Kevin Kolb at quarterback against the Eagles, his former team, on Sunday, but he could still take the field. Arizona coach Ken Whisenhunt said Saturday night that Kolb would likely be held out of the contest against his former team as he continues to recover from a right turf toe injury. "The only way he'll play tomorrow would be probably in a backup role," Whisenhunt said on SiriusXM Sports.

Cardinals Want To Sign Campbell To Extension

Sep 30, 2014 11:27 PM

The Cardinals plan to open contract discussions soon with the agent for defensive end Calais Campbell. Arizona general manager Rod Graves said the Cardinals are entering a period where they will discuss extensions for players. "He (Campbell) is certainly one of the guys we'll be talking about," Graves said. Campbell is in the final year of his rookie contract and is due to be an unrestricted free agent in 2011. He leads the Cardinals in sacks with five and has blocked two field goals this season.

Kolb Wants To Face Eagles 'At All Cost'

Sep 25, 2014 7:41 AM

Cardinals quarterback Kevin Kolb cherishes the thought of returning to Philadelphia to face the Eagles on Sunday. However, Kolb is dealing with a turf toe injury and he sat out last Sunday's game against the Rams. Philadelphia traded him to Arizona this past offseason in exchange for a draft pick and cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. Kolb says he wants to play against the Eagles, "at all cost." He officially didn't work out on Wednesday, but said he was able to do a little bit to prepare. "Threw a bunch of drills, trying to get movement back in it, trying to put a little bit more weight on it," Kolb said, "did some squatting, and did some step-ups. A little bit of movement here and there. I just took some nice easy drops, trying to see how much it will take as far as pushing off and doing certain things."
