Washington Uncertain Who Will Start At Quarterback In Week 5

Sep 30, 2019 9:55 AM

The Washington Redskins aren't sure who will start at quarterback against the New England Patriots on Sunday.

Dwayne Haskins replaced Case Keenum late in the second quarter of this past Sunday's loss to the New York Giants.

Haskins, the 15th overall pick, completed 9 of 17 passes for 107 yards and three interceptions.

"He's got to earn that right first," Jay Gruden said. "I don't care where you're drafted, you have to earn that. He's got to come in here and perform when he's asked to perform, and if I feel he gives us the best chance to win against New England, I'll put him in."

Keenum had completed 6 of 11 passes for 37 yards in nearly two quarters of action.

Washington Could Fire Jay Gruden With Week 4 Loss

Sep 27, 2019 4:44 PM

Washington could fire Jay Gruden as head coach if the teams falls to 0-4 this week with a loss to the New York Giants, according to two people with knowledge of the situation.

“I’ve seen a guy walk on the moon, for God’s sakes,” he said in a quiet moment after a recent practice. “Surely an 0-3 team can come back from the depths of 0-3 and put on a nine, 10 game streak and win 10 of their last 13 games. It’s not that big of a deal, right?”

There have been some in the media calling for Gruden to start Dwayne Haskins at quarterback.

Gruden has been more upbeat this week despite Washington's 0-3 record.

Washington Sticking With Case Keenum At Quarterback

Sep 24, 2019 10:20 AM

The Washington Redskins aren't considering a move to rookie Dwayne Haskins at quarterback.

The team is 0-3, but won't move on from Case Keenum just yet.

"Not really," Jay Gruden said when asked about moving from Keenum to Haskins. "The most important thing is that we have some continuity. I can't change people every five minutes, and I have to give Case an opportunity playing with these new guys. This is his first time in this offense. ... I think we can get better [offensively]. Otherwise, if I didn't think we had a chance to get better, then I would make a change. I feel Case has the tools to become a very efficient quarterback in this offense to get us some victories here moving forward."

The Redskins used a first-round pick on Haskins.

Washington Offering Brandon Scherff Extension At $13M Per Year

Sep 23, 2019 3:29 PM

Washington is attempting to sign Brandon Scherff to a long-term extension despite the absence of Trent Williams.

Scherff is Washington's right guard and was the fifth overall pick in 2015.

"From what I understand about Brandon Scherff is that the Redskins have had some contact with him, some negotiations on a potential big-time long-term extension," Rapoport said. "But they really have not gotten very much off the ground despite the Redskins offering him a contract worth more than $13 million per year, which would put him about at the top of the guard market. Those conversations are going to continue but don't be surprised if Brandon Scherff goes toward free agency and becomes the highest-paid guard in the NFL going forward next offseason."

Guice has now suffered a knee injury in two of the three games he has played for Washington; he tore his left ACL in the 2018 preseason opener.
