Landon Collins: Giants Made Series Of 'Culture Change' Moves

May 21, 2019 9:50 AM

Landon Collins believes the New York Giants allowed him to walk earlier this year because of the organization's "culture change."

Collins is a three-time Pro Bowler and signed a six-year, $84 million deal with Washington in March.

The Giants traded Odell Beckham Jr. and pass-rusher Olivier Vernon to the Cleveland Browns this offseason and didn't make any effort to re-sign Collins. They also traded defensive lineman Damon Harrison and cornerback Eli Apple midway through last season, when the team was struggling badly.

"I know with myself, [Harrison], Odell, [Vernon], all we wanted to do was win, and we spoke up because we had to get them to listen to us," Collins said. "We had to get them to get us winning pieces to help us at least be contenders.

"I think we were too vocal, and that platform was bigger than the Giants, you know, and our words stood out more. And ... if it's not good media, they don't want that kind of media."

Dwayne Haskins Preparing Like He'll Be The Starter

May 15, 2019 11:51 AM

Dwyane Haskins will have to beat out Case Keenum and Colt McCoy to start for the Washington Redskins in Week 1, but the rookie is preparing to do just that.

"I'll be ready for whatever the coaches want from me, whether that's starting right away, next year or through the season," Haskins said. "I'm going to prepare like I'm the starter. That's me in the weight room, me in the meeting rooms, me with the younger guys, me with the older guys. Every opportunity is an opportunity for me to show that I'm the guy. That's what I'm working on."

Washington used the 15th overall pick on Haskins.

HBO's Hard Knocks Down To Four Potential Teams

May 14, 2019 8:28 AM

There are only five teams eligible to appear on HBO's "Hard Knocks" this season.

Rules prevent teams with first-year coaches, teams that made the playoffs within the last two seasons, and teams that have been featured on "Hard Knocks" within the last 10 years from appearing on the show.

The San Francisco 49ers, New York Giants, Oakland Raiders, Detroit Lions and Washington Redskins are eligible, but a report has indicated that the 49ers won't be featured.

Washington Impressed With Dwayne Haskins At Rookie Minicamp

May 12, 2019 10:32 AM

Washington has been impressed with the play of Dwayne Haskins at their rookie minicamp.

"It's been a treat," Gruden said. "He's made some throws that turn your head without a doubt."

Added Doug Williams, the Redskins' senior vice president of player personnel: "It don't take long for the ball to get from Point A to Point B."

Haskins was selected 15th overall by Washington.

Gruden has said he does not like a three-man competition for the starting job because it's hard to divide the reps to give each quarterback enough of a chance.

"The most important thing in the next couple weeks is, let's see how far we can push this guy," Gruden said. "Let's see if there is a chance he can win the job. If we feel like he's coming along slower, then we have to maybe push Case or push Colt. But if we feel like [Haskins] is coming along and he's firing and he's comfortable, then we'll play it out and see what happens."
