Nov 29, 2016 12:04 AM

Washington hasn't decided what they'll do with Kirk Cousins and won't do so until after the season despite reports that they plan to place the franchise tag on the quarterback if a long-term deal can't be reached.

Washington wants to see how the remainder of the season plays out.

Placing the tag on Cousins is projected to cost Washington nearly $24 million in 2017.

Washington Prepared To Use Franchise Tag On Kirk Cousins Again

Nov 28, 2016 8:42 AM

Washington is prepared to use the franchise tag on Kirk Cousins again in the 2017 offseason if they are unable to agree upon a long-term deal.

Cousins is being paid a guaranteed $19.95 million in 2016 after he became the second quarterback to play under the franchise tag, joining Drew Brees in 2005 with the San Diego Chargers.

Cousins is fifth in the NFL in Total QBR this season and has thrown for 3,540 yards with 20 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

The franchise quarterback tag for the 2017 season will be $23,943,600.

GMs Expect Kirk Cousins To Make At Least $20M Per Season

Nov 27, 2016 2:21 PM

Kirk Cousins has likely done enough to secure himself a major contract with his production this season playing under the franchise tag.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport spoke with three general managers about the Redskins' QB conundrum this week. All three executives anticipate that Cousins' next contract will be worth more than $20 million annually, placing him in exclusive company with the highest-paid players in the league.

Cousins has the highest passer rating of any quarterback over their last 20 starts.

Washington was unable to agree upon a long-term deal with Cousins in the offseason.

Dez Bryant, Josh Norman Scuffle After Cowboys' Win

Nov 26, 2016 11:24 AM

Dez Bryant and Josh Norman had to be separated by teammates after getting into a scuffle after the Dallas Cowboys' 31-26 win over Washington.

Bryant caught three of his five passes while being defended by Norman.

Bryant opened his postgame news conference with a strong rebuke of Norman.

"First off, Washington needs to get their money back from Josh Norman," said Bryant.

When Norman held Bryant to two catches for 26 yards last Thanksgiving, Norman said the Cowboys should "get Dez's $70 million back," referencing the five-year, $70 million deal Bryant signed in the summer of 2015.

Norman signed a five-year, $75 million deal with the Redskins this past summer.

"I didn't make it personal," Bryant said. "He made it personal. I was just going to come out and do my job, and that's exactly what I did. He wanted to bump. I let him bump. He got me bumping a little bit, and he made me attack him even more. You know, I honestly feel like the guy is extremely soft. I think he's just a bunch of talk. If he was out and about, I wouldn't dare on my life let him talk to me like that. Those words would never came out his mouth. Promise. Promise it wouldn't. But on another, we got after that ass. Hell of a win. You know, it feels good."

Elliott Wants To Avoid 'Ball Security Issues' Against Washington

Nov 23, 2016 12:47 PM

The Dallas Cowboys will face Washington on Thursday and Ezekiel Elliott wants to avoid fumble issues in the game.

Elliott, who leads the NFL in rushing as a rookie, fumbled twice in Week 2 against Washington and was replaced by Alfred Morris on the Cowboys' game-winning drive.

"I remember we were playing pretty well," Elliott said. "I remember I had some ball security issues -- that's my biggest memory. That's obviously my focus every week, but definitely even more focused coming into this week -- even seeing 24 [JOsh Norman] go out there and get a strip late in the game on Sunday night. It's something we've got to focus on, something you're aware of."

Kirk Cousins Yells 'How Do You Like Me Now?!' Celebrating With GM

Nov 21, 2016 12:12 PM

Kirk Cousins threw for 375 yards and three touchdowns on 21 of 30 passing in Washington's 42-24 win over the Green Bay Packers in a nationally televised game Sunday evening. Cousins also has an aggressive new catchphrase after his "You like that?" last season.

“How do you like me now?!” Cousins shouted.

“Hey, I appreciate you,” GM Scot McCloughan said, patting Cousins on the chest. “That’s good stuff, man.”

Cousins also messed up McCloughan's hair to end the exchange.

Cousins and Washington were unable to agree upon a long-term deal and is playing under the franchise tag.

“I think there’s something to being more stoic, and being very methodical, and that has its benefits as well,” Cousins told 106.7 The Fan. “But I think there’s a fire there and a passion there that you guys saw when I yelled ‘You like that!’ or when I’m playing and competing that I do want people to know about and feel like is there. Sometimes in this market I try to be careful and not stick my foot in my mouth, or do anything that would hurt the team or hurt anybody, but at the same time, there’s a passion there I think I can let out probably a little more than I do, and who knows, hopefully over time it’ll keep surfacing in a positive way and help this team win football games.”

NFL Now Has 10 Teams In Marijuana-Legal States

Nov 9, 2016 1:36 PM

With Tuesday's elections, 10 NFL teams play in a state where marijuana has been legalized medically or recreationally.

California and Massachusetts joined Washington and Colorado as states where marijuana can be consumed for any purpose. If the Raiders relocate to Las Vegas, that won't change as Nevada has legalized marijuana for recreational purposes.

Florida is one of various states to legalize marijuana for medicinal purposes.

The NFL previously justified their ongoing ban because federal law considers marijuana as a controlled substance.

The 49ers, Raiders, Rams, Chargers and Patriots joined the Seahawks, Broncos, Jaguars, Dolphins and Buccaneers.
