Washington Holding Robert Griffin III Trade Talks With Multiple Teams

Feb 26, 2016 6:14 PM

Washington has been been in talks with at least two teams about a trade involving Robert Griffin III.

Griffin would have to agree to a new contract with any team that trades for him, so he figures to have some influence on where he ends up.

Washington picked up Griffin's $16.15 million option for 2016. If they are unable to trade Griffin, the Redskins are expected to release him by the time the new league year begins March 9.

Washington To Use Tag On Kirk Cousins

Feb 27, 2016 1:02 PM

Washington will use one of their tags on Kirk Cousins.

Washington must decide whether they will use their franchise tag or their transition tag on Cousins, a league source told Schefter.

Cousins won the quarterback job over Robert Griffin III.

Based on a projected salary cap of $153 million for the 2016 season, the franchise tag for the quarterback position would be worth $19.6 million while the transition tag would be worth $17.5 million.

Chiefs, Eagles, Broncos Considered Top Spots For Robert Griffin

Feb 24, 2016 8:55 PM

The Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles are considered the top potential landing spots for Robert Griffin III.

Washington will release Griffin before March 9th.

"I'll give you two big options right off the top," Ian Rapoport said on NFL Network. "The Kansas City Chiefs, who have Andy Reid, who has propped up quarterbacks for years. (Griffin) can learn to throw from the pocket under that system. Another potential name: the Philadelphia Eagles with one of Reid's disciples, Doug Pederson. They're looking for some quarterback depth there, especially if they don't re-sign Sam Bradford."

The Denver Broncos are also an option for Griffin if they're unable to re-sign Brock Osweiler.

Griffin lost his job to Kirk Cousins last season.

Washington can release Griffin any time until March 9th when the new league year begins.

Robert Griffin III Passes Exit Physical

Feb 14, 2016 12:17 PM

Robert Griffin III passed his exit physical, which will lead to Washington releasing him by March 9th. Griffin's $16.155 million option becomes fully guaranteed on March 9th.

Griffin lost his job as quarterback to Kirk Cousins.

"The thing that's good about where we are right now is, we have until March 9," McCloughan said, per The Washington Post. "That's why I want to sit with the coaches -- and not just the coordinators, position coaches; everybody -- and get a feel for it, because (Griffin) is a good football player, he's a really good person, and he's under contract. And that's where we are right now."

Washington intends to sign Cousins to a long-term deal.
