Titans Sign RT Stewart To Multi-Year Extension

Jul 23, 2014 5:45 PM

The Tennessee Titans have signed starting right tackle David Stewart to a multi-year contract extension. Stewart signed a one-year tender earlier this offseason as a restricted free agent. The new contract provides the Titans with lasting stability at key positions the offensive line. Left tackle Michael Roos agreed to a multi-year deal in April. ?The ability to get both Michael and David under contract long term is a huge part of growing a young team,? said Titans General Manager Mike Reinfeldt. ?David is the prototypical right tackle in my mind, and his style of play sets the tone in a lot of ways for our line and our team in general.? The 6-foot-7, 318-pount Stewart, appropriately nicknamed ?Big Country,? has started 30 games at right tackle during his three-year career, including all 16 games in 2007. Originally a fourth-round selection (113th overall) in the 2005 NFL Draft, he was inactive for every game as a rookie but emerged in 2006 with 14 starts and a reputation as one of the team?s most physical players. He played an integral role in the NFL?s fifth-ranked rushing offense in both 2006 and 2007. A native of Moulton, Ala., Stewart started 35 consecutive games in his career at Mississippi State and earned honorable mention All-Southeastern Conference honors as a senior.

Titans' Receiver Cited For Gun At Airport

Jun 11, 2014 3:54 PM

Titans' receiver Brandon Jones was arrested and issued a citation at Nashville International Airport on Friday for carrying a .32 caliber gun in his baggage, according to The Tennessean. He was arrested around 11:40 A.M. local time but was released and allowed to board a flight to Phoenix. Jones issued this statement through his agent: "Today I was cited for carrying a handgun when going through security at Nashville International Airport. Obviously, I did not know I was carrying my gun. This morning I grabbed a bag and placed my clothing in the bag, then rushed to the airport. I had forgotten that the last time I had used the bag was when I went target shooting." "I fully cooperated with authorities who confiscated the handgun at the security gate. I have a license for the handgun and a permit for carrying one. Realizing that I was not intentionally carrying the handgun nor did I have any intention of harming anyone, I was allowed to board my airplane and continue my travels. I want to apologize for any embarrassment this might cause my family, the Titans' organization or my teammates."
