Young: 'I Wasn't Going To Quit'

Titans' quarterback Vince Young claims that he was never close to retiring from the game of football despite comments he made last week, according to The Tennessean. "I was never going to quit football," Young said Thursday. "Football, that is my pride and joy; it is my dream. I am playing my dream. And I don't plan on giving that up any time soon." He told NFL.com in a recent interview that he considered retiring after his rookie season in Tennessee. "Oh, my God. Oh, my God. I ain't never said I was going to quit football," Young said. "There was a lot of stuff going on in my life, but football is not hard to me. Football is easy. All you have to do is be coachable and use your God-given talent. If it was a thought at all it was just a passing thought for a second."

Vince Young, the Titans' 2006 Rookie of the Year told NFL.com in an interview posted on Monday that he considered retirement after his first season. "I really thought long and hard about it," Young told the Web site. "There was so much going on with my family. It was crazy being an NFL quarterback. It wasn't fun anymore. All of the fun was out of it. All of the excitement was gone. All I was doing was worrying about things." "My teammates helped lift me out of it. I prayed really hard. And I began to focus on God's calling for me. Play football. Be a role model."

Wide receiver Mike Williams, the tenth overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft, is attempting to save his career with the Titans this season, according to The Detroit Free Press. Williams lost 30 pounds this offseason and was with the team bright and early when workouts began recently. "That conversation with Fisher, only a fool wouldn't take it as such," Williams said of Coach Jeff Fisher's request that he get in shape. "It was pretty much, 'You make a commitment to be in shape when you come back or ... move forward.'" "His weight's coming down. We're working on the speed. He's running well and catching well, so it's going to be very competitive there," Fisher said. "I'm pleased with where he is."

Titans' quarterback Vince Young apologized to young fans on Thursday for photos that popped up on the Internet of him partying, according to The Tennessean. "I apologize to some of the kids if they did see it because I am trying to be a role model for them," Young said after practice Thursday. "But at the same time, I was just trying to have fun. (But) that is the life of a quarterback, somebody of my status. It is not going to stop me from having fun. I just have to watch myself." The pictures were reportedly taken last month at a club in Austin, Texas.

Ron Dayne Visits With Titans

Free-agent running back Ron Dayne was scheduled to meet with the Titans on Thursday, according to The Tennessean. He was expected to undergo a physical and work out for team officials. "Tennessee got a chance to see Ron play the last (two) years while he was in Houston, and they like him," agent Karim Lawrence said. "They were very interested in getting him there (for a visit)." The Titans have no shortage of runners, though, with LenDale White, Chris Henr,y and first-round pick Chris Johnson under contract. "What they said to me was LenDale is coming off a knee injury, so that is maybe a concern of theirs," Lawrence said. "Ron has proven he can play through whatever. He is a hard worker, kind of like how the team and the city is, blue-collar. He comes to play and could certainly help." Dayne won the Heisman Trophy in 1999.

Titans' White Played 2007 With Torn Meniscus

Titans' running back LenDale White played the entire 2007 season with a torn meniscus in his left knee, according to a report in The Nashville City Paper. White had arthroscopic surgery in January to repair the tear, having suffered the injury during the preseason last August. "This happened last year in preseason. I tore my meniscus," White said. "I played on it all season. Contrary to what people believe, I am a soldier. I played on it all year, and I didn?t complain, not once. I waited until the season was over to get it fixed, and now I?m feeling good." He rushed for 1,110 yards in sixteen games for the Titans in the regular season, suiting up for the team's playoff loss to the Chargers as well.

Tennessee defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth will not be at the team's minicamp because he is unhappy with his current contract situation, according to the Associated Press. The team's camp opens Thursday. "Albert is continuing to work out on his own," agent Chad Speck said. The Titans tagged Haynesworth as their franchise player in February and now must come to terms with him on a new deal by July 15. If that doesn't happen, Tennessee will be forced to sign him to a one-year deal worth $7.8 million.
