Rob Gronkowski Says He Was Joking About Having Buccaneers' Playbook

Apr 30, 2020 9:18 PM

Rob Gronkowski said during a media event on Saturday that he's had the Tampa Bay Buccaneers playbook for four weeks, predating the trade that sent him from the New England Patriots last week.

He walked those comments back on Wednesday night.

"This is seriously a story?" Gronkowski said on Twitter. "Lol! I was just joking around with Sage [Steele] as I was pretty much the whole time that time when I was co-hosting the show [with Barstool Big Cat]. Wowsers, my co-hosting skills on point!! Lol!! I actually just received my team-issued Surface today from the Bucs and it's still in the package, and hoping it is all pictures and drawings. I'm pumped to open it one day hopefully soon and follow the arrows to learn where to run too. Gronk run Gronk catch ball. No playbook needed. Hehe."

The tight end made his original comments during the Bud Light Seltzer "Drafterparty."

After Steele pointed out that Joe Burrow has been studying the Cincinnati Bengals' playbook for weeks, Gronk said he's had the Buccaneers playbook for four weeks.

NFL: Tom Brady's Visit To Tampa OC Didn't Violate Rules

Apr 29, 2020 9:57 AM

Tom Brady made headlines when he entered the home of offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich's neighbor instead of Leftwich's house last week.

While many laughed, multiple teams inquired with the NFL whether the Tampa Bay Buccaneers violated the NFL's "dead period" prior to the virtual offseason program.

The NFL investigated and determined that no violation of offseason work rules occurred.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, players and nonessential personnel are forbidden from entering team facilities and from conducting the league's originally scheduled offseason programs, which includes classroom instruction and conditioning.

Tom Brady Walks Into Wrong Home Trying To Meet Byron Leftwich

Apr 23, 2020 3:08 PM

Tom Brady walked into the wrong home when trying to meet with Byron Leftwich.

Brady and Leftwich were trying to follow social distancing guidelines with Brady picking up materials from his new coach rather than meeting with him. Leftwich had been expecting him, which might explain why Brady didn't knock.

Brady later responded to the TMZ story, tweeting, "Trespassing in parks, breaking and entering... Just making myself at home in Tompa Bay!"

"I'm sitting here, and I see this big shadow come up to my front door ... and I hear my doorknob turning ... and I'm like, What the hell? Like, who's coming in my house?" homeowner David Kramer told the website. "I literally was just sitting here, and I watch this tall guy walk in my house."

John Lynch, Kyle Shanahan Considered Signing Tom Brady

Apr 21, 2020 5:33 PM

John Lynch admitted that the San Francisco 49ers discussed acquiring Tom Brady this offseason.

Brady reportedly put out word to the 49ers that they would be his choice if they were interested. Brady grew up as a fan of the 49ers in the Bay Area. The 49ers would have had to make a corresponding move involving Jimmy Garoppolo to make room for Brady.

"When you're talking about one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time with Tom Brady, of course you're going to have some internal discussion," Lynch told Rich Eisen. "And then you hear rumors that hey, he'd like to come home, that kind of thing.

"So of course Kyle and I have discussions. We're always into getting better, so you always look at everything, especially a situation like that. But within a day or two, Kyle and I looked at each other and said, 'You know what, we really like what we have in Jimmy.' We love everything that he brings and we really believe it's a long-term answer. I would tell you we're more convinced than ever about who our quarterback is in Jimmy Garoppolo."

Tom Brady Spotted Working Out At Closed Tampa Park

Apr 21, 2020 9:27 AM

Tampa mayor Jane Castor said on Monday that a city employee spotted Tom Brady working out in a closed park in downtown Tampa.

"Our parks are closed down, so a lot of our parks staff, they patrol around just to make sure people aren't in there with contact sports and things," Castor said. "She went over to tell him that it was closed, and it was Tom Brady."

Florida is currently under stay-at-home orders, though recreational activity outdoors is permitted as long as social distancing is followed. Jacksonville recently opened its beaches for recreational activity, but the Tampa Bay area's beaches and parks remain closed.

Buccaneers Not Expected To Trade For Leonard Fournette

Apr 20, 2020 12:05 PM

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are not expected to pursue a trade for Leonard Fournette.

Fournette gained 1,674 yards from scrimmage last season. Fournette is scheduled to make $4.16 million in base salary this season.

The Buccaneers feel there is plenty of depth at running back in this year's draft.

Tampa Bay currently does not have much depth at running back beyond Ronald Jones, a second-round draft pick in 2018, and Dare Ogunbowale, a pass-catching change-of-pace back.

Aaron Rodgers Excited For 'Another Chance' To Play Tom Brady

Apr 15, 2020 9:25 AM

Aaron Rodgers is looking forward to seeing Tom Brady in a new uniform this coming season and another chance to play the future Hall of Famer.

"I think it is definitely strange," Rodgers said. "It will be strange to not see him in a Patriot jersey. We played them a couple of years ago and thought that was probably the last time we'd play each other. Now, we get another chance.

"I think having him in the league is obviously great for the league and he's a fantastic player. His career speaks for itself. Obviously, he still feels like he has a lot — he has something left to prove. I don't think he does. I think it is only to himself that he can still do it. What he's done kind of setting the bar for the rest of us with his health and his work ethic and his longevity is something I think that is appreciated now and is going to be appreciated even greater when he's done playing."

The Green Bay Packers are scheduled to play Brady and the Buccaneers in Tampa Bay during the regular season.
