Jets Expected To Sign Shawn Nelson

Oct 11, 2014 4:47 PM

The Jets are expected to sign former Bills tight end Shawn Nelson on Monday. Nelson worked out for New York last Tuesday. A 2009 fourth-round pick of the Bills had 20 receptions for 181 yards and a touchdown in 17 games with Buffalo. Nelson was suspended for the first four games of 2010 for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

Santonio Holmes Still Unhappy With Role

Oct 8, 2014 3:57 AM

The Jets have won two straight games and are starting to round into form, but all is not well. The biggest problem is that wide receiver Santonio Holmes remains thoroughly dissatisfied with his role in the offense. Holmes, who received a big-money contract to remain with the team, has a measly 311 yards on 24 receptions, with three touchdowns this season.

Ryan Admits Pass-Heavy Offense Was Bad Idea

May 17, 2014 9:16 PM

Jets coach Rex Ryan admitted Monday it was a bad idea to go into the season with an aggressive passing attack. New York used a three-receiver package as their base offense and let Mark Sanchez air it out, but it didn't work. After four games, Ryan decided to go back to their roots -- Ground & Pound -- and that change has helped the Jets to a two-game winning streak. "I think maybe I got caught up in maybe being enamored with the type of personnel we had," Ryan said. "But at the end of the day, (we) never waited until the season went by. We went back to being who we were."

Jammer: Referees Cost Chargers A Win

Jul 7, 2014 9:47 AM

Chargers cornerback Quentin Jammer believes that he has a perfectly good reason for the team's loss to the Jets on Sunday afternoon. San Diego blew an 11-point halftime lead. There were 13 penalties called on the Chargers, including two pass-interference flags on him. "I don't have to say anything about what the refs did -- everyone saw how the calls went," Jammer said after the game. "When you're not getting the chance to play the way you play, it's upsetting," he added. Jammer was just getting started with his rant about the game's officials. "(The officiating was) consistently bad," he said. "No way it was called fairly. No way. Not at all. It wasn't called fairly at all. Maybe I'm being biased, but I'm just judging off what I saw. It wasn't a fair game called."

Ryan To Chargers: 'Stay Classy, San Diego'

Jun 4, 2014 2:29 PM

Jets coach Rex Ryan had a simple response to grumblings coming from the Chargers in the wake of New York's 27-21 win over San Diego on Sunday afternoon. "Stay classy, San Diego," said Ryan, referencing the movie "Anchorman." Chargers tight end Randy McMichael said the Jets didn't deserve any credit, without being at all subtle. "The San Diego Chargers beat ourselves, OK?" McMichael said. "It's all about us. We took our foot off the gas pedal, and we lost because of it. ... Their secondary isn't anything. It's our fault. It had nothing to do with anybody on their team. It's all about the guys in this locker room. We lost the game. They didn't do anything." Earlier in the week, Ryan inadvertently took a shot at Chargers coach Norv Turner by saying if he had been hired to coach San Diego instead of Turner, he'd have a "couple of rings" by now. Ryan immediately called Turner to apologize and took it a step further Monday, vowing not to use a word that got him into trouble with Turner. "I will no longer say the word 'rings' anymore," said Ryan, who also said in 2009 that he didn't come to New York to kiss Patriots coach Bill Belichick's rings.

Tomlinson Becomes Fourth RB With 600 Catches

Oct 11, 2014 4:21 PM

LaDainian Tomlinson became the fourth running back in NFL history to catch 600 passes, reaching the milestone midway through the first quarter of the Jets' Sunday game against the Chargers. Tomlinson, who's also sixth on the NFL's career rushing list, joins Larry Centers (827), Marshall Faulk (767) and Keith Byars (610) as running backs with 600 or more receptions. He got No. 600 on a 6-yard shovel pass from Mark Sanchez. Tomlinson, playing for the first time against the team with which he spent his first nine seasons, entered the game needing a touchdown against San Diego to join Terrell Owens as the only players to score against all 32 NFL teams.

Rob Ryan: Brother Rex Has 'Ring Envy'

Oct 11, 2014 4:06 AM

Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan says his brother Rex, the head coach of the Jets, is obsessed with earning as many Super Bowl rings as the rest of the famed football family. Rob Ryan says that Rex's recent shots at Chargers coach Norv Turner, when he said that he'd have already won a few Super Bowls if he was coaching San Diego, weren't exactly shots at Turner. "Rex is constantly using that multiple ring thing, multiple ring this, multiple ring that, multiple ring this," Rob Ryan said. "The simple fact is it had nothing to do with Norv Turner. I coached with Norv. Norv is a great coach and a good man. He's done obviously a great job in San Diego. The multiplicity thing is really ring envy." Ring envy? "His twin brother has two rings, his dad has three rings, he only has one, so you can see the multiplicity thing," Rob Ryan said. "It's embarrassing, because it's all about the family. It's a sibling rivalry and Norv got in the way of a sibling rivalry."

Jets Apologize For Pulling Plug On Revis Interview

Jun 14, 2014 3:02 AM

The Jets have apologized for pulling the plug on an interview with cornerback Darrelle Revis on Friday afternoon. Revis was being interviewed by Mike Francesa of WFAN when he was pressed on the question of whether he committed pass interference on the pass he intercepted and returned 100 yards for a touchdown against the Dolphins on Monday night. Eventually, the team's public relations department intervened and advised Revis to hang up. Jets director of public relations Jared Winley has issued the following statement on the matter: "In my judgment, given the tone of the interview, I should have asked Mike to move on to another topic, instead of instructing Darrelle to hang up the phone. That was an error on my part. I've called Mike's producer and I apologized."

Jets Will Start Tomlinson Against Chargers

Oct 31, 2014 2:15 PM

Jets running back LaDainian Tomlinson will make his first start of the season Sunday when his current team faces his old team, the Chargers. Tomlinson is the best running back in San Diego history, a record-setter during his nine seasons with the Chargers and the 2006 NFL MVP. His exit from the team after the 2009 season wasn't particularly pleasant, though. "I'm not a guy who holds grudges or tries to prove anyone wrong," Tomlinson said. "I don't have time for that. It's nonsense. "I had a great nine years there, and I don't want to make it more than it is."

Rex Regrets Taking Swipe At Turner

Oct 17, 2014 12:12 AM

Jets coach Rex Ryan admits he messed up in his comments about the Chargers, New York's opponent this week. "It was me, it's all on me. I'm guilty. Absolutely," Ryan said. "It was unintentional." On Wednesday, the Jets coach made an off-hand comment when asked about the interview he had for the Chargers job that eventually went to Norv Turner in 2007. "Well, I think I would have had a couple of rings," Ryan said. "I'm telling you, those teams were loaded." The Chargers haven't won any championships. Ryan was hired by the Jets in 2009.
