Rex Ryan and the Jets visited the World Trade Center site and met surprised construction workers there a little less than two weeks before the 10-year anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. Rex Lauds Jets Defense

Nov 5, 2014 1:10 PM

A few weeks ago, coach Rex Ryan disagreed with a comment by Mark Sanchez, who had compared the Jets' defense to the '85 Bears. Not even the ultra-confident Ryan would go that far. But he believes his defensive unit can be pretty special. "Will we end up being the best defense in football? I think so," the Jets' coach said Tuesday. "I challenge everybody: Put your negative comments out there and we'll see what happens in the end, because I think our defense is going to be outstanding. "I wouldn't trade this defense for anybody's in the league."

Revis: Dolphins Duo Hasn't Earned Status

Sep 7, 2014 1:58 PM

Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis says Miami's tandem of cornerbacks hasn't earned the right to call themselves the league's best. Dolphins defensive back Vontae Davis said this week he and Sean Smith are "the best [cornerback] tandem in the league." Revis smiled when he heard the comments. "He's got to play a couple more years before he's saying all that," Revis said. "They're a good tandem but they have a lot of work to do." Davis said, "I'm going to go out on a limb and say we're the best [cornerback] tandem in the league. That's what I'm going to say. You can name all of [the other tandems] across the league, I'll put it out there: We're the best tandem." Revis said he spent time with Davis and Smith during the NFL lockout and encouraged the two of them.

Ryan Calls Jets Best Team In NY, Fires Back At Tuck

Oct 31, 2014 11:36 AM

The annual preseason game between the Jets and Giants received a jolt late Thursday, with Rex Ryan claiming the Jets are the superior team. Ryan also fired back at Giants defensive end Justin Tuck. On Wednesday, Tuck made a passing comment about the name of the stadium, saying "it'll always be Giants Stadium" even though MetLife purchased the naming rights this week. Ryan couldn't resist. "I think of it as MetLife Stadium and it's the home of the New York Jets," he said on a conference call with reporters. "I guess he can think of it that way. (He's) probably one of the only guys that think of it that way. I certainly won't think of it that way."

Giants VP 'Disappointed' Burress Went To Jets

Oct 8, 2014 5:02 AM

Giants vice president Steve Tisch wasn't happy when he learned that wide receiver Plaxico Burress was going to sign with the Jets. "I was disappointed," Tisch said. "My disappointment, I totally understand, you and your readers will understand. ... At the same time, he's made a good deal, a very good deal; he's been guaranteed real money and I would like to see him have a great season. I truly would like to see him play great football for the Jets. It looks like he's off to a great start." Tisch said he has a close relationship with Burress and he even visited the receiver while he was serving his two years in jail for pleading guilty to weapon violations. Burress played four seasons with the Giants before going to jail.

Gholston Says He Got Raw Deal From Ryan

Jul 5, 2014 9:43 AM

Vernon Gholston, a former first-round pick, was released by the Jets this offseason. He slammed Jets coach Rex Ryan on Monday, saying the coach and the organization didn't give him a fair chance. Gholston made the comments after his new team, the Bears, played the Giants. "I heard how he was perceiving me before the [2008] draft, before he knew me, and I was the same way -- I wasn't hoping for him to be [my] first coach of the Jets when I was there, either," said Gholston, who was picked sixth overall in the 2008 NFL Draft. "Being a first-round pick, you would have hoped for more [of a chance]," he added. "Rex made a comment to me when he first came in that he thought I wasn't liked by the guys on the team, then once he got there he saw that wasn't the case," Gholston said. "Those perceptions kind of determine the outcome, and it's sad to say."
