Jets? Abraham To Be Back In Uniform On Monday

Jun 8, 2014 7:12 PM

John Abraham, the New York Jets three-time Pro Bowl defensive end will meet with his agents, Tony Agnone and Rich Rosa, today in Baltimore and will almost certainly report to camp tomorrow, according to someone with knowledge of the situation. "John will make the final decision," the person said yesterday Abraham is still looking for the long-term deal, however it seems he will now sign the one-year $6.67 million franchise tender offer. "John is excited about coming back, eventually," Abraham's close friend, defensive end Shaun Ellis, said last week. "He misses the group. We as players aren't down on him. We know it's a business thing. "When he comes back, we'll embrace him with open arms. He's one of our brothers. Everything is good. When the time is right, he'll come back."

"I'm going to play. You know how stuff happens out there. It just feels like a sprained finger. It's not killing me. I'm just going to do the right thing for it."

Abraham's Agent Refutes Reports That Deal Is Close

Nov 3, 2014 4:13 PM

John Abraham's agents yesterday refuted widespread reports that the Jets' franchise player is close to ending his six-month contract dispute. "The statement that John is going to be there by the end of the weekend is false," the Baltimore office of agents Tony Agnone and Rich Rosa said in a statement. "His options are open to do what he's entitled to do under the collective bargaining agreement." That means it's possible that Abraham, who was still in South Carolina yesterday, will not report until the Tuesday before the regular-season opener, the deadline for receiving his first game check in the amount of $392,157. Rosa and Agnone were not available to elaborate on the statement released by their office, but essentially Abraham has no plans to sign his one-year, $6.7-million franchise tender until next week at the earliest. As the Jets wrapped up training camp yesterday with their final two practices, coach Herman Edwards continued to downplay Abraham's absence. "I'm not frustrated with him because that's a decision that he has to make, and he has a right to make his own decision," Edwards said.

Abraham's Holdout Could End This Week

Nov 3, 2014 4:13 PM

Holdout defensive end John Abraham could be back with the Jets by the end of the week, but not with the long-term contract he's hoping for. A person with knowledge of the Jets' situation said yesterday that the team is optimistic that Abraham will end his holdout by signing a one-year contract for $6.7 million. "[Abraham] is here in town, so I think he'll come in," the person said. Once Abraham does come in, look for him to make one fairly significant change. He'll be wearing uniform No. 56, a change from the No. 94 he previously wore. While the Jets have no immediate plans to give Abraham a long-term contract, there is a good chance he will get a new deal if he plays well this season.

Jets' Abraham No Closer To Return

Nov 3, 2014 4:18 PM

The Jets are not wavering in their refusal to negotiate a long-term deal with disgruntled defensive end John Abraham. Jets GM Terry Bradway speaking to WFAN radio on the field yesterday during practice, said, "The bottom line is, we want the same thing John wants. We want John to be here a long time. We want to be able to work out a long-term deal with John at some point ... We are committed to him." When reporters asked Bradway to elaborate on his comments immediately after his radio interview, the general manager said, "Nothing to report. I have no comment." Asked when Abraham might report to training camp, Bradway said, "I have no idea. Nothing new to report."

Coaches Confident Pennington Will Be Ready For Season Opener

Nov 3, 2014 4:19 PM

Chad Pennington hasn?t taken a live snap since Jan. 15, however, he is expected to play a quarter this upcoming Friday against the Vikings. While things are still uncertain, the Jets are positive that Pennington will be ready for the Sept. 11 season opener in Kansas City. "Within the first week, sometimes I felt like I had to push the ball to get it there because I couldn't get my arm back far enough," Pennington said. "So after the Giants practice, it kind of turned the corner through some rest and some rehab and now it's starting to look even better in getting back to normal and being my old self again."

Law Deal Finally Done

Nov 3, 2014 4:18 PM

Ty Law signed a one-year, $3.5 million contract with the New York Jets which could grow as large as a seven-year, $50 million package. "I think this team is on the verge of doing something very special, and that's why I wanted to join them," said Law, 31, who spent 10 seasons on the other side of the Jets-Patriots border war. "I have a lot left to give," said Law, who received only mild interest from other teams. "I'm going to prove to all the doubters, if there are any out there, that I'm still the best cornerback in football." There were casualties in this deal. To make room for Law under the salary cap, the Jets released popular cornerback Ray Mickens and four others.
