Dolphins Likely Out; Chiefs And Jets Now In Ty Law Hunt

Nov 5, 2014 3:41 PM

Conernerback Ty Law has indicated that he is not interested in playing for the Miami Dolphins after the team contacted him a second tome. ''Now Miami wants me to come back and visit,'' Law said during an interview with Peter King of Sports Illustrated. ``But if you can't afford Patrick Surtain, how can you afford me?'' ``The Jets are interested. Kansas City called again. Tampa Bay faxed an offer. Indianapolis is in it. I got an offer, sight unseen for $2.5 million for one year. If I wasn't ready, I'd just take it. But I'm going to be ready to play, and that's not the kind of contract I should get.

Jets Begin Renegotiating Giants Stadium Lease

Sep 12, 2014 2:59 PM

The New York Jets are negotiating to change the terms of their lease with the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority, owner of Giants Stadium, where the team plays its home games. Rent reduction is part of the discussion, which was spurred by a lawsuit the Jets filed in 2003 complaining that the New York Giants had been given a reduction and that the Jets should have one also, authority spokesman James DeBosh said Monday. Leases for both teams require the authority to make such offers. The Giants got a rent reduction in 1999, from 15 percent of ticket sales to 10 percent, and agreed to extend the team's lease through 2026. DeBosh said that the authority made an equivalent offer to the Jets, but the team rejected it, contending the two items should be considered separately. "It was not a unilateral rent reduction. It was a rent reduction together with a lease extension," DeBosh said.

Pennington Begins Throwing Again

Sep 12, 2014 2:59 PM

Jets quarterback Chad Pennington has started throwing again, four months after surgery to repair a torn right rotator cuff. Last week, Pennington began tossing the football off to the side during the final few offseason training activity sessions. Though he didn't participate in the practices, he was able to work on handoffs to the running backs. Pennington is throwing about 80 times every other day, and the Jets expect him to be ready for full practice when training camp opens July 29. "While he did not throw during on-field OTA practices, Chad was given clearance and a schedule to throw the football and will continue to be evaluated as to the amount of throws he will make leading up to training camp," coach Herman Edwards said in a statement yesterday. "We fully expect Chad to be ready for the start of training camp." Pennington had surgery in February after playing the final seven games of last season with a tear in the muscle of the rotator cuff, which the Jets initially said was a strain. The Jets went 3-4 in that span, and Pennington looked shaky, constantly underthrowing or overthrowing receivers.

Report: Law Expected To Sign With Cleveland

Jun 18, 2014 3:27 PM

The New York Daily News is reporting that Jets fans shouldn't expect their team to sign Ty Law. They are rumored to be interested Law, the former Patriots star. For one thing, it appears that CB Donnie Abraham will play this season. Secondly, the Jets aren't likely to meet Law's asking price. There is a good chance that he winds up with the Browns, reunited with former Pats defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel.

Jets Receive Good News On New Stadium

Sep 12, 2014 3:05 PM

The New York Jets received good news on Thursday in their quest to build a state of the art facility in Manhattan when a State Supreme Court Judge ruled that their bid to acquire the necessary land from the Mass Transit Authority (MTA) was fair. The approval now leaves the Public Authorities Control Board?s (PACB) vote on Friday as the last obstacle in the way of the future home of the Jets and the 2010 Super Bowl, awarded to the Jets only if the New York Sports and Convention Center is built. Despite the dire warning, today?s court victory gives the Jets bid momentum that it has clearly lost due to the aggressive and well-funded campaign by Madison Square Garden. With the lawsuit out of the way, the Jets will have just two of the three members of the PACB to convince. With public opinion mixed, they may find the two legislators far more daunting than the Million-dollar enemy they have taken care of in Madison Square Garden.
