The Jets have begun negotiations to bring cornerback Ty Law to New York. This coming after Law expressed interest in playing for Jets? coach Herman Edwards.
Though Law hasn't spoken personally with Edwards since early in free agency, the four-time Pro Bowl cornerback has continued to relay his preference to sign with the Jets through various channels. Jets running back Curtis Martin spoke with Law recently but declined to disclose the nature of those conversations.
"It's just that we're friends, so we talk every once in a while," Martin said yesterday. "I'm not going to talk about his business. You know how I feel."

Jets' Abraham Officially Retires
After mulling the option for the most of the offseason, New York Jets defensive back Donnie Abraham made his retirement official on Monday.
"My decision to retire from the game that I?ve enjoyed playing for nine seasons is in the best interest of my family and our future," Abraham said. "This is an opportunity for me to spend more time with my children and pursue personal business interests. This was a tough call to make because of how well the Jets? organization has treated me as a player and a person, and how much I enjoy playing with the guys on this team."
Abraham Decides To Retire
Nine-year veteran cornerback Donnie Abraham, who has wavered throughout the spring on his future and sat out much of the New York Jets' offseason conditioning program as he deliberated whether he wanted to return for 2005, has decided to retire.
Abraham, 31, informed Jets officials of his decision within the past few days. Reacting to Abraham's decision, the Jets on Thursday acquired third-year veteran corner Pete Hunter from the Dallas Cowboys for a conditional sixth-round pick in the 2006 draft.
New York also is in discussions with free agent cornerback Ty Law, formerly of the New England Patriots, and the Jets might now be the front-runner to secure the four-time Pro Bowl performer. Jets officials have stayed in touch with Law and his representatives over the last few months and the level of discussions has escalated a bit. Law's agents are also speaking with other clubs, notably the Jacksonville Jaguars, but no team has yet offered a deal commensurate to what the 10-year veteran is seeking.
Jets Sign Fifth Round Pick
The New York Jets signed their fifth-round selection safety Andre Maddox on Monday.
Maddox, a 6-foot-1, 200-pound product of North Carolina State, finished his career with 341 tackles, eight sacks, one fumble forced, one fumble recovered and 17 passes defended in 47 games played.
New York Loses Out To London On 2012 Olympics
The British capital of London, which last had the games in 1948 while continental Europe was rebuilding in the aftermath of World War II, upset Paris 54-50 on the fourth ballot Wednesday. Moscow, New York and Madrid were knocked out in the first three rounds of the International Olympic Committee vote.
"This is our moment," said London bid leader Sebastian Coe, a former Olympic middle-distance champion. "It's massive. It's huge. This is the biggest prize in sport."
New York had hoped to build a West Side Olympic Stadium that would become the new home of the Jets.
