The New Orleans Saints have moved more than $26 million in salary cap charges into future years by restructuring the contracts of Michael Thomas and Ryan Ramczyk.

New Orleans began the offseason approximately $75 million over the projected cap of $208.2 million.

Thomas' restructure is especially notable since it further indicates that New Orleans has no plans to trade him.

The Saints converted $14.6 million of Thomas' scheduled salary and roster bonuses into a signing bonus, which means they can spread the cap charges over the next five years. 

The New Orleans Saints have promoted assistants Ryan Nielsen and Kris Richard to the roles of co-defensive coordinators.

Nielsen and Richard will continue to oversee the Saints' defensive line and secondary units, respectively.

New head coach Dennis Allen previously served as New Orleans' defensive coordinator under Sean Payton, while Nielsen was the assistant head coach/defensive line coach and Richard was the secondary coach.

The New Orleans Saints will retain longtime offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael, Jr. under new head coach Dennis Allen, according to sources.

The Saints considered other candidates, but ultimately decided to stick with Carmichael. He has been with the team since he joined Sean Payton's original staff in 2006.

Carmichael, 50, was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2009 and called plays in 2011, 2012 and 2016.

Before he signed with the Los Angeles Rams, Odell Beckham had discussions about joining two other teams.

Beckham was cut by the Cleveland Browns on November 5.

Several teams reached out to the wide receiver once he hit the open market. The New Orleans Saints were one of the first.

"I was close, very close," Beckham said of signing in New Orleans. "It just didn't feel like the right time. Right place, wrong time."

After turning down the Saints, he also talked with the New England Patriots.

"I don't think I joked with him on the phone," Beckham said of speaking with Bill Belichick. "But I was like, if this was three years ago, it would have been ideal. Because Tom [Brady] is one of the -- he's one of my favorites."

Dennis Allen has agreed to become head coach of the New Orleans Saints to replace Sean Payton.

Allen was previously serving as defensive coordinator of the Saints.

Allen was a head coach earlier in his career with the Las Vegas Raiders.

Alvin Kamara was arrested following Sunday's Pro Bowl in Las Vegas.

The Las Vegas Police Department announced that Kamara was taken into custody after a person at a local hospital alleged that the person had been battered at a night club in South Las Vegas.

The incident allegedly happened on Saturday. 

The New Orleans Saints will interview Eric Bieniemy for their head coaching position.

Bieniemy has been offensive coordinator of the Kansas City Chiefs since 2018.

The Saints are searching for a replacement for Sean Payton.
