Michael Thomas isn't participating in OTAs with the New Orleans Saints, but the team expects him back from his ankle injury in time for training camp.

Dennis Allen added that Thomas is present and rehabbing with the team during the voluntary workout period.

The 29-year-old wide receiver missed the entire 2021 season with the ankle injury after he delayed his first surgery to repair multiple ligaments until June -- then suffered a setback in November that required a follow-up procedure. 

"I think he's doing well in his rehab. He's not ready yet. But he's here, he's rehabbing, he's getting himself better. And we're certainly anxious to get him out here," Allen said. "I know that he's working his tail off to get himself back. And we feel good about where he's at right now."

When asked whether Thomas will be ready for training camp, Allen said, "That's certainly our plan."

Dennis Allen says a cryptic tweet by Drew Brees, who hinted at a possible return to football, was likely "made in jest."

Brees created a stir Sunday night when, as part of a tweet to address "speculation" about his future, he said he "may play football again."

The quarterback, 43, retired from football in March 2021 and spent last season as an analyst for NBC. 

Allen, the first-year New Orleans Saints head coach, said there have been no discussions about a Brees comeback in New Orleans.

"I think it was a comment made in jest, and we certainly haven't had any conversations in that regard," Allen said.

Drew Brees will leave NBC after just one season as an analyst, according to a report.

The retired quarterback commented on the report in a tweet posted Sunday:

"Despite speculation from media about my future this fall, I'm currently undecided. I may work for NBC, I may play football again, I may focus on business and philanthropy, I may train for the pickleball tour, senior golf tour, coach my kids or all of the above. I'll let you know."

Another report stated that Brees' contract with NBC was longer than one year.

Chris Olave, the 11th overall pick, has been working out with New Orleans Saints teammate Michael Thomas for the last few weeks.

The Saints officially opened rookie camp on Friday.

Thomas welcomed the fellow former Ohio State receiver over FaceTime shortly after he was drafted -- and then invited Olave to come stay with him and work out.

"I couldn't turn that down," said Olave, who spent a week and half with Thomas before flying to New Orleans for this weekend's rookie minicamp.

Jarvis Landry has agreed to sign with the New Orleans Saints.

Landry is originally from Louisiana and played collegiately at LSU.

The Cleveland Browns released Landry this offseason.

Tyrann Mathieu has agreed to sign with the New Orleans Saints.

Mathieu visited with the Saints at their team facility in April after he was not re-signed by the Kansas City Chiefs as a free agent. He also met virtually with the Philadelphia Eagles. But New Orleans' need for an impact safety increased when it did not select one during the NFL draft over the weekend.

The Saints lost both of their starting safeties this offseason when Marcus Williams signed with the Baltimore Ravens and Malcolm Jenkins retired. 

The New Orleans Saints are expected to revisit talks with Tyrann Mathieu after they were unable to land a safety in the draft, according to sources.

Mathieu, a New Orleans native, met with the Saints in April.
