Brees' Agent, Saints In Talks
Saints quarterback Drew Brees said his agent and the team have been talking about a contract extension, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.
"They've been in discussions," Brees said of talks between the Saints and his agent, Tom Condon, according to the report. "That's been ongoing."
Alex Brown Tweets Saints Have Cut Him
Saints defensive end Alex Brown tweeted Tuesday saying he has been released.
He had worked with the first team during training camp and the preseason.
Brown, who started all 16 games for the Saints last season, wrote the following post:
"It saddens me to say that I have been released from the Saints because their a first class organization and I will miss it. Good luck to the guys and Who Dat Nation keep roaring... My family and I had a blast here.. Thanks."
Saints Release Jon Stinchcomb
The Saints have released right tackle Jon Stinchcomb.
Stinchcomb was a Pro Bowler two years ago when New Orleans won the Super Bowl.
"Obviously something like that is a difficult decision for us as an organization," coach Sean Payton said.
"Here's a guy that has really been part of our program, certainly since we came here in '06 and well before that. He epitomized the type of player we're looking for. Certainly he's a guy we wish well and will miss."
Mark Ingram Scores In NFL Debut
Saints rookie running back Mark Ingram scored a touchdown in his preseason NFL debut on Friday night against the 49ers.
His touchdown came on a 14-yard run.
"Just being able to get in the end zone for the first time being an NFL player is special for me," said Ingram, who carried six times for 23 yards.
"I just have to thank the line for blocking great. That's what really allowed me to get in. All I had to do was make one guy miss."
Saints, Kreutz Agree To Contract
The Saints have agreed to terms with Pro Bowl center Olin Kreutz on a one-year deal worth between $2 million and $3 million, according to a source.
Incentives could increase the value of the deal to $4 million.
Kreutz, 34, took it hard Saturday when talks broke off with the Bears, who had given him and his agent, Mark Bartelstein, an ultimatum on a one-year, $4 million contract, which was $2 million less than he was paid in 2010.
Kreutz Draws Interest From Saints, Ravens
Former Bears center Olin Kreutz is drawing interest from both the Saints and Ravens, according to a source.
Kreutz visited New Orleans on Thursday.
Baltimore lost center Matt Birk for at least a few weeks following arthroscopic knee surgery.
Kreutz turned down a $4 million, one-year offer from the Bears on Saturday when general manager Jerry Angelo gave him an ultimatum in the form of a one-hour window to make up his mind.
Saints, Aubrayo Franklin Agree To One-Year Deal
The Saints have reached an agreement with former 49ers free-agent defensive tackle Aubrayo Franklin on a one-year deal, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
