Shockey Says He's Fine After Seizure

Jul 31, 2014 11:27 PM

Saints tight end Jeremy Shockey said Thursday that he's fine after suffering a seizure during a weightlifting session. "I am ok, thanks to everyone who has shown their concern don't worry about me I will be fine," Shockey wrote on his Twitter page. "WHO DAT!!" New Orleans coach Sean Payton said Shockey will be hospitalized overnight after an incident that veteran safety Darren Sharper called "scary" to see. "I talked to Jeremy from the hospital, and the good news is he's feeling better and everything looks real good," Payton said. "He'll likely finish up his tests and spend the night in the hospital. They don't know if it was dehydration or what. That's what they're going through right now. They just want to make sure it's nothing more significant than that."

New Orleans Still Considering Signing Veteran QB

Jul 31, 2014 11:26 PM

The Saints are considering signing a veteran quarterback to backup Drew Brees. ?We?ll see," said Sean Payton. "We?re a little restricted in regards to free agency signings or signings of unrestricted free agents in regards to the final four rule, but there?s still a lot of time here before we break, really a month. We?ll evaluate that. Whether we go to camp with three or not. I?d probably lean towards four if we could, but you?re limited with your camp numbers. We?ve taken three before to camp. We?ll keep looking at it and seeing how these younger guys are doing in the meantime.?

Saints Move Jenkins To Safety

Aug 11, 2014 5:03 PM

Malcolm Jenkins, the New Orleans Saints' first-round draft pick in 2009, has been moved from cornerback to free safety, coach Sean Payton said after an organized team activity Thursday. Darren Sharper, 34, is the Saints' starting free safety, but moving Jenkins there clearly is insurance in case the veteran has problems with his surgically repaired knee. It also allows the team to groom Jenkins to one day take over Sharper's spot. Sharper had minor microfracture surgery on his left knee following the Super Bowl, but Payton said earlier this month that the safety is expected to be ready for training camp in July. Jenkins started six of 14 games at cornerback last season when starters Tracy Porter and Jabari Greer went down with injuries. Jenkins finished with 55 tackles, two forced fumbles and an interception.

Shockey Rushed To Hospital After Suffering Seizure

Sep 12, 2014 5:09 PM

Team sources confirm to Ed Daniels of WGNO, ABC 26 and Brian Allee-Walsh of NewOrleans.Com/Sports that New Orleans Saints tight end Jeremy Shockey was rushed to the hospital after apparently suffering seizure-like symptoms during a weight training session at the conclusion of the team's third Organized Team Activity (OTA). Shockey was able to walk under his own power with the assistance of paramedics to a waiting ambulance before he was taken to a local hospital. An eyewitness provided this account to Allee-Walsh. The player asked to remain anonymous because of the sensitive nature of the situation. "It was a little scary; it looked like maybe a mild seizure or a full body cramp or something,'' the player said. "There were a decent amount of guys in the weight room at the time. At first nobody really knew what was going on, but the trainers took control of the situation after a while. "He was shaking and everything, and he was basically out of it for probably a minute or so, but it seemed longer. After he started coming back everything was pretty much all right. He seemed aware and everything seemed OK after a while. He got up and was walking around.''
