Patriots Have 18 Undrafted Free Agents On Roster
The Patriots have a number of pedigrees littered among their offensive line and a few first-round pick on their defense.
However, New England also has 18 undrafted free agents on their roster as they prepare to face the Giants in this Sunday's Super Bowl.
Eight of their starters were undrafted free agents.
"I tell the team that I don't care how you got here, it's what you do when you get here. It doesn't matter if you were drafted in the second round, the fifth round, or not drafted at all," coach Bill Belichick said.
Rolle: Giants 'Expecting To Win' Super Bowl
The Giants arrived in Indianapolis on Monday and they did so confidently.
"We wouldn't have boarded the plane if we didn't expect to win," safety Antrel Rolle said. "I think that is the bottom line."
"We have come here for one thing and one thing only which is to win," he added. "We are expecting to win this game come Sunday."
Rolle wasn't making a guarantee or a prediction. He was just expressing the confidence that permeates throughout the Giants roster.
Welker Plans To Return To Patriots Despite Expiring Contract
Wes Welker will see his contract expire after the Super Bowl, but he plans to remain with the Patriots.
"I plan on being back," Welker said. "I am not really too worried about that right now. I am fully concentrated on this game and what we have to do, but I plan on being back."
Welker leads the NFL in receptions over the last five years (554).
If the sides can't hammer out an extension by the start of the 2012 league year in March, the Patriots would likely put the franchise tag on the 30-year-old.
"This is all stuff that we can address at another point," he said. "It can be a story after the season is over, but right now, we are just concentrating on this game and what we have to do to win this game. If you win this game, all of that other stuff takes care of itself."
Pierre-Paul: 'Every Quarterback Can Be Rattled'
Jason Pierre-Paul, who has enjoyed a breakout season with 16.5 sacks, is looking forward to rushing Tom Brady in the Super Bowl.
New York didn't hit Brady in their 24-20 win over New England in the regular season.
"Every quarterback can be rattled; there's no guy who can't be," Pierre-Paul said. "Even the great ones. You do your assignments, don't do anything out of the ordinary, just do what you do."
Gronkowski Won't Take Success For Granted
Rob Gronkowski has played a major role in the success of the Patriots this season, but he isn't taking his success for granted.
"He's had a lot of production," coach Bill Belichick said. "He's had a lot of touchdowns. He's had a lot of good blocks. I don't know what a `game changer' is, but he's definitely made some plays."
The tight end has a high ankle sprain, but is expected to play against the Giants in the Super Bowl next week.
"It's unbelievable," Gronkowski said.
"It's my second year in the league, playing with a great team, and you have to enjoy the moment. It doesn't even feel right, especially playing with the veterans here. I watched them go to the Super Bowl as I was growing up and now I'm part of it? It is an unreal moment and you can't take it for granted."
Belichick: Indianapolis Loves Me Since I Went For It On Fourth-And-2
Bill Belichick used his arrival in Indianapolis on Sunday morning to take a playful shot at himself.
Asked about the welcome he gets in Indy, Belichick noted that the Super Bowl will be played at Lucas Oil Stadium, the same place where Belichick infamously went for it on fourth-and-2 from his own 28-yard line late in the fourth quarter of what turned out to be a loss.
Belichick said that ever since that decision, which set up the Colts for their game-winning touchdown, the fans in Indianapolis have loved him.
"I never had too much hospitality here until I went for it on fourth-and-2," Belichick said. "Since then I've been greeted in a lot more friendly manner than I was in the past."
Patriots Arrive In Indianapolis After Send-Off
An estimated 25,000 fans flooded Foxborough late Sunday morning to give the Patriots a send-off rally at Gillette Stadium before the team left for Indianapolis and the Super Bowl.
"I want to thank you all for coming here today and giving us the warmest welcome in the history of this team," owner Robert Kraft said. "(It's) our send-off to Indy, where we intend to do business."
Rolle Skeptical Of Patriots' Praise Leading To Super Bowl
A skeptical Antrel Rolle says the Patriots have established a pattern of praising everyone before and after games, and little should be taken from their compliments throughout the week.
"Typical Patriot fashion," Rolle said. "They give compliments to everyone they play."
Rolle added that he and his teammates would not listen to what the Patriots had to say.
"Before the game, after the game, you give them their respect," he said. "But during the game, there's no respect at all."
Ochocinco Leaning On Moss, Owens For Support
Chad Ochocinco has reached the Super Bowl for the first time in his career, but he isn't sure the Patriots will even activate him for the game.
He has struggled individually despite New England's success as a team.
"No, there's no bittersweetness," Ochocinco told Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald. "There's a competitive side to me that is angry, the competitive nature in me that it didn't go the way it normally has. I routinely produce a certain way every year.
"So when that routine goes astray like it did this year, it feels funny. It's something I had to get used to. But I took it in stride. I did everything I was asked on and off the field."
Ochocinco says he has spoken to Terrell Owens and Randy Moss for support throughout the season.
"For me, those guys were my outlets. Not Twitter,” Ochocinco said.
"To have those two guys in my corner, I talk to them all the time. (Moss) keeps me sane for 16 weeks, every week. Every week we talked. T.O., too. We're close-knit, us so-called diva receivers. ... I love those two, man. I didn't want to burden anyone else in here with that bull. They don't want to hear that."
Giants Hoping To Expose Edelman On Defense
The Patriots have been using Julian Edelman, a wide receiver-turned-cornerback on defense, something that hasn't gotten lost on the Giants.
"I hope he's out there when we play them," receiver Mario Manningham said. "I don't want to sound like that, but you know what I mean. To our advantage, I hope he's out there."
Manningham then added a few comments that surely will find their way to the New England locker room.
"It's a different stage," he said. "This ain't regular season. That ain't your real position, so we're going to try to expose you. It's all or nothing now. That ain't your position, this is the Super Bowl and we want you to play that position."
