Vikings Cut Dan Bailey

Mar 10, 2021 8:00 AM

The Minnesota Vikings have released kicker Dan Bailey.

The 33-year-old was at risk of becoming a cap casualty this offseason after the Vikings signed Greg Joseph off the Tampa Bay Buccaneers practice squad.

With $1.8 million of Bailey's $2.7 million 2021 base salary set to become guaranteed on March 19, the Vikings released the kicker to yield $1.7 million in salary-cap savings.

Vikings GM: Kirk Cousins Is 'Our Quarterback Going Forward'

Mar 4, 2021 8:35 AM

Rick Spielman doubled down on his support for Kirk Cousins while speaking to the media on Wednesday.

"I think Coach [Mike Zimmer] put that to bed when he spoke after the season," the Minnesota Vikings general manager said. "Kirk Cousins is our quarterback. I know there's a lot of rumors floating around out there, but Kirk Cousins is our quarterback. We felt that he played very well, probably the best that he's ever played, down that stretch last year.

"Kirk is our quarterback going forward, and I look forward to him [having] another year in this system. I'm excited for him and what he's going to bring to our team next year."

After signing a record three-year, $84 million fully guaranteed deal as a free agent in 2018, Cousins signed a two-year, $66 million extension last March that earns him a $21 million base salary in 2021. His $35 million base salary for 2022 becomes fully guaranteed if he is on the roster on the third day of the 2021 league year, which begins March 17.

Vikings Release Kyle Rudolph

Mar 2, 2021 11:19 PM

The Minnesota Vikings have released Kyle Rudolph after 10 seasons with the team.

Rudolph was set to count at $5.1 million against Minnesota's cap for the 2021 season.

Rudolph was a second round pick in 2011.

"I got so lucky, because -- I didn't just get drafted by some team who 'had a need at tight end,' Rudolph wrote. "I didn't just get drafted as, like, the nameless, faceless '#1 tight end on the board.' I got drafted by a team that was all set in terms of need ... but then drafted me anyway.

"I'll always remember that: how the Minnesota Vikings wanted me -- and wanted to bet on my potential."
