Patrick Mahomes' New Deal Likely To Come After Draft

Feb 10, 2020 1:27 PM

The Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl less than a week ago, but Patrick Mahomes' contract status has already been pushed to the forefront.

Clark Hunt suggested last month that the Chiefs could wait a year to give Mahomes a long-term deal, but an agreement before next season is the most likely scenario.

The timeline for a new deal would be shortly after this spring's NFL Draft.

Kyle Shanahan Has No Regrets About Super Bowl Playcalling

Feb 7, 2020 9:03 AM

Kyle Shanahan has no regrets about his offensive play calls in the Super Bowl last Sunday.

The San Francisco 49ers led the Kansas City Chiefs by 10 points in the fourth quarter, but went on to lose.

"I personally thought we had the best team in the NFL this year," Shanahan said. "And we weren't, and we've got to deal with that. But I'm sure we believe we had that and we should have proved that and we didn't get that done. And that's what's really cool about sports, that's what hurts about sports, that's what's fun about sports. It's why I love sports and it's also why everyone likes watching it, because there is a lot of emotion in there and when I do feel this way and stuff, I mean it, it makes me feel stronger because it does hurt a lot. But I also know how much I can deal with it. And if that's the worst stuff that happens, I can't wait to try our butts off to get back there next year."

Sammy Watkins Needs 'Downtime' For His Mental Health

Feb 5, 2020 10:04 AM

Sammy Watkins says he's "too young to retire" but he does need some downtime after two long seasons.

"I don't control the contract, a trade or if they're going to give me a bigger contract," Watkins said. 'That's not my worry. I'm not really focused on the money aspect of it. I'm really focused on my health, mental health and really checking in on and making sure I'm OK with my life, my family, my wife, my kids. Once I figure that out, I think I'll be fine."

The Chiefs would reportedly like to work something out that keeps Watkins on the roster, but reduces his $14 million salary.

Chiefs' Derrick Nnadi Pays Adoption Fees For 91 Dogs

Feb 4, 2020 9:03 AM

Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Derrick Nnadi celebrated the team's Super Bowl win by helping out a local animal shelter.

Nnadi will pay the adoption fees for the dogs who were in the shelter as of Sunday for as long as it takes for those dogs to be adopted. Adoption fees at the Kansas City Pet Project normally run about $150.

He sponsored a program during the regular season in which he paid the adoption fee for one hard-to-adopt dog after each Chiefs victory.

Patrick Mahomes Reiterates Desire To Remain With Chiefs Long-Term

Feb 4, 2020 3:28 PM

Patrick Mahomes reiterated he wants to remain with the Kansas City Chiefs now that he's eligible for a contract extension.

"That's stuff that's handled with other people,'' Mahomes said Monday. "Obviously, I want to be in Kansas City for a long time. I understand that and also I want to win a lot of football games here.

"For me, it's kind of letting that stuff handle itself. I'm in a great organization. I have a great team of guys working for me, guys and girls. For me, it's about trusting those people and finding the best way to do it in order to have the best team around me."

Mahomes figures to become the NFL's highest paid player when he signs a new contract.

Feb 3, 2020 9:32 AM

In the wake of Sunday night's Super Bowl win over the San Francisco 49ers, Chris Jones says he wants to remain with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Jones has been an important cog for the Chiefs since they made him a second-round pick in 2016.

"You actually got to sit back and enjoy the moment cause you don't get these moments often. I'm so grateful to be on this team, man," he said. "Kansas City, I know I don't talk about it much but I want to be a Chief for life. I plan to stay here forever, man, and win not only one championship, two, three, four. We got to build a dynasty here."

Chiefs Beat 49ers 31-20 To Win Super Bowl LIV

Feb 3, 2020 3:45 PM

The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers 31-20 to win Super Bowl LIV.

Patrick Mahomes led the Chiefs to score 21 straight points over the final 6:13 to complete the comeback over the Niners, who led 20-10 deep into the fourth quarter. The 49ers had upwards of a 95 percent chance of winning the game until Kansas City scored a touchdown to cut it to a three-point game. The game seemed to pivot on a 3rd and 15 play from Kansas City's own 35 when Mahomes completed a 44-yard pass to Tyreke Hill.

Mahomes was named Super Bowl MVP, finishing the game 26-for-42 for 286 yards, two touchdowns passing, one touchdown rushing and two interceptions.
