Jaguars Extend Contract Of Saftey Donovin Darius

Sep 25, 2014 7:12 AM

The Jacksonville Jaguars signed a three-year contract extension with safety Donovin Darius on Friday. Darius will get the same $4.97 million he was due this year as a franchise player, and without going into specifics, indicated he will take less the next three years. "I'm excited about it because I have the opportunity to play my career here where it all began," Darius wrote on the team's Web site message board Friday. "The two sides sat down and expressed their desire and what they needed for it to be done and that was it. The deal that is great for me and fair for the organization." Darius drew critism from coach Jack Del Rio after skipping a mandatory minicamp in April and has apologized to the organiazation and fans for his mini-holdout. "I look forward to turning this thing around with what we started from last year," Darius wrote on the message board. "Signing the deal just means that now I can continue to do what I've been doing for some time to come. It also allows me to work with some of the younger guys and show them the ropes as guys like Carnell Lake did for me."

Jaguars And Titans Angle For Henry

Nov 11, 2014 10:03 PM

Despite reports that the Jacksonville Jaguars are close to acquiring Travis Henry, the Tennessee Titans have made the more attractive trade proposal to the Buffalo Bills and are the front-runner in the chase for the disgruntled tailback. Discussions between the Bills and the two most ardent suitors for Henry have been ramped up, and the situation remains in flux as Buffalo officials continue their efforts trade Henry sooner rather than later. The Seattle Seahawks, who had earlier indicated interest in Henry, apparently are out of the hunt. Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio told the Florida Times-Union on Thursday that the addition of Henry, who has been on the trading block for virtually the entire offseason, could be completed "in the next few days or week." "The fact that we have an opportunity to acquire a running back [with] this kind of talent is something we have to look at, [and] so we're looking at it," Del Rio said. "This may or may not happen, but we're protecting our interests, and any time we think we can acquire somebody who can help us, we're going to do that."

Despite The Interest, Bills Find No Takers For Henry

Sep 25, 2014 7:10 AM

After Buffalo running back Travis Henry asked to be traded, The Bills asked for a second round pick in exchange for their backup. With no takers, they lowered it to a third round pick, same deal. Now they're are wondering if anybody will trade. The Jaguars have expressed interest but have yet to make a move even though they have claimed to be first in line. "We're not going to budge. We feel we've already lessened the asking price. We don't think we could go below that. We think we're giving away for a three,'' Donahoe said. "We think that a three is pretty fair for a starting caliber running back, somebody who's been to the Pro Bowl. It's been perplexing to us why we haven't been able to get it done.'' "It's frustrating for us and frustrating for Travis,'' Donahoe said. "We understand how he feels. Wherever he ends up, he'll add tremendous toughness. He's played with broken ribs and a hairline fracture in his leg. He lines up and plays. It's not a case where we want to trade Travis. Selfishly, I would love to have him on our team. I really respect him. I haven't been around too many football players tougher than him.''
