Dungy Definitely Returning To Indy

Jun 18, 2014 12:45 AM

Tony Dungy, who seemed conflicted about whether to return after Indianapolis' loss last week, told ESPN's Chris Mortensen on Sunday morning he would definitely return as Colts head coach. "I'm full-speed ahead," Dungy told Mortensen. "We're disappointed with how the season ended, we've got some things to fix and some personnel issues, but we're getting started on them." Dungy spent the week in Florida with his family to reflect on his plans, even though he had pretty much assured the Colts he was coming back. There had been speculation near the end of the season Dungy would contemplate retirement following the suicide death of his 18-year-old son, James. Last Monday, one day after the Colts' dream season ended in a 21-18 home loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Divisional playoff, Dungy said at that moment, "it's 100 percent I'll be back," but didn't know "how I'll feel in the next four or five days when I'm relaxing."

Dungy Thinks He'll Be Back

Oct 11, 2014 2:03 AM

Tony Dungy plans to return as Colts coach but left open the possibility of retirement following a season marked by the death of his 18-year-old son. "I really don't know how I'll react the next few days," he said Monday, a day after the Colts were eliminated from the playoffs. "I think I'll be back. But it will really be the first time I've had to think about it." Dungy has been one of the NFL's most successful coaches over the past decade. He's reached the playoffs eight times, won three straight AFC South titles and taken teams to the AFC and NFC championship games. This year, he won his 100th career game less than two weeks after he turned 50.

Harper's Wife Claims Stabbing Was Accidental

Oct 11, 2014 2:04 AM

Colts cornerback Nick Harper's wife told police she accidentally stabbed her husband while waving a filet knife at him during an argument, according to court documents. Daniell Harper, 31, remained Sunday night in the Hamilton County Jail, where she was being held without bond on preliminary charges of battery with a deadly weapon and criminal recklessness, both felonies. Sheriff Doug Carter said he was waiting for a judge to determine the conditions for the woman's release. The county prosecutor also must review the case. Nick Harper, 31, phoned 911 about 3:45 p.m. Saturday and was treated at an Indianapolis hospital after deputies and paramedics found him with a puncture wound to his right knee, police said. His wife told police the stabbing had been accidental, Sheriff's Department Sgt. Kevin W. Fessel said. "I don't think this began as a violent confrontation between the two," said Sheriff Carter. "I think this began as a conversation between the two that escalated."

Steelers Slay The Colts

Dec 9, 2014 7:41 AM

The Pittsburgh Steelers gave the Colts every opportunity to steal their playoff game Sunday. In the zany, final moments of a true thriller, Indy couldn't figure out how to take it. So the Steelers survived a goal-line fumble by Jerome Bettis and one of the most mysterious replay reversals in NFL history to shatter the Colts' dream season with a 21-18 win. Pittsburgh (13-5) became the first sixth seed to make a conference championship game and will journey to Denver next Sunday for a shot at the Super Bowl. They will do so breathlessly. This victory should have been so much easier. The Steelers dominated the Colts (14-3) until a fourth quarter with almost unimaginable twists and turns that ended when Mike Vanderjagt missed his first field goal at home, wide right from 46 yards. Vanderjagt then slammed his helmet to the turf, obviously forgetting how fortunate he was to have the chance.
