Cowboys Not Ready To Fire Jason Garrett

Nov 29, 2019 3:14 PM

Following their 26-15 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Thanksgiving, Jerry Jones said the Dallas Cowboys will stick with Jason Garrett as head coach.

Jones previously gave Garrett a Super Bowl or bust mandate and he's sticking with that.

"This is not the time for me [to make a coaching change]," Jones said outside the locker room with tears in his eyes. "I'm looking ahead at another ballgame. I'm looking ahead at winning four or five straight and helping write a story they will talk about, how it looks like you're down and out. And I mean that. That's the way that I'm operating. Every decision that I make over the next month will be with an eye in mind to get us in the Super Bowl now."

The Cowboys has lost six out of nine games.

"You just have to get back to work," Garrett said. "That's the nature of the National Football League. It's hard every week. You are going to deal with adversities over the course of the year. You're going to have to deal with the successes over the course of the year. You have to learn from them and move on and get ready for the next challenge."

Jerry Jones Gives Jason Garrett Super Bowl Or Bust Mandate

Nov 27, 2019 11:12 AM

Jerry Jones explicated his expectations for Jason Garrett to keep his job as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. Garrett is in the final season of his current contract with the Cowboys.

"Let me tell you, no one in this country has earned the right to say 'I'm a Jason Garrett man' more than me. I am his man," Jones said. "And we want the very same thing. And that's for our players to play at their very best and we want his staff to coach at their very best. The bottom line is we get graded. I'm in business. I don't have to win the Super Bowl in business every year. I can come in sixth and have a hell of a year. But in this case, you've got to come in first. You've got to come in first. So fundamentally, you've asked for something that's a very narrow window to begin with. I want Jason to get it done."

Jones said everyone is responsible for the current situation the Cowboys are in, including himself.

"Well, I think that I speak for everyone on our team. No team has felt like it's played at its very best," Jones said. "No team feels that way. We're always looking for improvement. I'm the general manager. So, I'm the one who puts those coaches out there. I'm the one who put those players out there. They're out there on my decision. So, when they don't have a good day, I don't have a good day either."

Cowboys-Patriots Draws NFL's Highest Rating Since 2007

Nov 26, 2019 11:39 AM

Sunday’s game between the Cowboys-Patriots during NFL national window averaged a 19.5 overnight rating on FOX, tying the highest regular season NFL overnight since Patriots-Colts on CBS in 2007 (22.5). It matched a 2015 Seahawks-Cowboys game on Fox.

The 19.5 is also tied as the highest for a regular season NFL telecast on FOX since 1996, again matching the 2015 Seahawks-Cowboys game.

The game was the highest rated program since the Academy Awards in February (20.6) and the highest rated sporting event since the Super Bowl.

NFL Tells Cowboys Tripping Penalties Shouldn't Have Been Called

Nov 26, 2019 9:29 AM

The league office has told the Dallas Cowboys that a pair of tripping penalties shouldn't have been called during their loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday afternoon.

Travis Frederick was flagged for tripping on third-and-1, negating a first down as the Cowboys were driving for a potential go-ahead score late in the fourth quarter.

Also, in the first quarter, Tyron Smith was penalized for tripping, putting the Cowboys in a difficult second-and-23 situation.

Jason Garrett had no comment on the calls during his Monday news conference.

Urban Meyer, Josh McDaniels Given Best Odds To Coach Cowboys

Nov 25, 2019 4:05 PM

Jerry Jones warned people not to wager on Jason Garrett being fired, but now bettors are lining up to pick the next head coach of the Dallas Cowboys.

Garrett and his staff made some decisions during Sunday's loss to New England that were questioned by Jones, which prompted SportsBetting.ag to set odds on who will be the Cowboys head coach in Week 1 next year.

Urban Meyer, who last month said he would "absolutely" take the Cowboys job if offered to him, is at the top of the board with 3/1 odds. Josh McDaniels, Lincoln Riley, Rob Saleh and Sean Payton all have odds of less than 10/1.

Cowboys Head Coach for Week 1 of 2020
Urban Meyer +300
Josh McDaniels +400
Lincoln Riley +500
Robert Saleh +500
Sean Payton +600
Jim Harbaugh +1200
Ken Norton Jr. +1500
Kris Richard +1500
Mike Leach +2000

Jerry Jones Calls Loss 'A Significant Setback' For Cowboys

Nov 25, 2019 2:45 PM

Jerry Jones was disappointed following the Dallas Cowboys' 13-9 loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday afternoon.

Dallas is now 6-5 on the season and have yet to beat a team with a winning record.

"Make no mistake about it, this was a bigger game [for the Cowboys] than it was for the Patriots on the win column," Jones said. "We had an opportunity to establish something. There is no gratification getting down to the last drive with it determining the outcome of the game. That is not the point. You can't be satisfied with how we got out there.

"I don't care if it is New England with their record and their coach and all that. You can't be satisfied just because you got within the last drive. I'm just really frustrated. I thought we could come up here and put together a better effort in all three phases. I expected us to play well against them defensively. We got what I think we should have expected from our defense. The other phases of the game, we can't come up here and play like that."

Tom Brady Says He Was Born To Dislike Cowboys

Nov 20, 2019 8:47 PM

Tom Brady said he grew up disliking the Dallas Cowboys.

"I've really not liked the Cowboys since coming out of the womb," he said Wednesday with a touch of humor.

Brady, a native of San Mateo, California, who grew up a San Francisco 49ers fan, sparked laughter before turning serious. Brady attended the NFC Championship on January 10, 1982 in which the 49ers beat the Cowboys with The Catch by Dwight Clark from Joe Montana.

"I've got a lot of respect for those guys. They've had a great winning organization, and a lot of great players in their history," he said. "As a Niners fan, you play the Cowboys, and every time they'd hand off to Emmitt Smith it would be a 5-yard gain and you'd pull your hair out. Throw it up to Michael Irvin, and Troy [Aikman] was such a great player. The defense -- Ken Norton and 'Prime Time' [Deion Sanders]. So the history of great players, the tradition."

Dak Prescott: Cowboys Will Peak At The Right Time

Nov 15, 2019 9:35 AM

The Dallas Cowboys have lost four of their last six games, but Dak Prescott remains confident.

Dak Prescott said he "knows we're going to peak at the right time" to make their season a success.

"No concerns," the quarterback said. "No concerns. This team, these players, the character of these men ... I have no doubt that it's going to go the right way."

The Cowboys are tied with the Philadelphia Eagles atop the NFC East at 5-4, but hold the tie-breaker with a head-to-head victory.
