Allen Released By Dallas

Jun 3, 2014 12:55 PM

The Dallas Cowboys released left guard Larry Allen on Tuesday, likely cutting ties to one of the most dominant offensive linemen in NFL history. Allen, the final player left from Dallas' most recent Super Bowl team, is going into his 13th season. No longer the steamrolling blocker he once was, Allen was due a $2 million roster bonus April 1. The move also saves Dallas about $3.5 million toward next season's salary cap. "This decision is a tough one for me personally,'' Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said in a statement. "Larry has been the best in pro football for a long time. His ability and performance set a standard for excellence at his position in the NFL for many years, and we are grateful for his contributions to the Dallas Cowboys.'' Dallas could still re-sign the 34-year-old Allen, with Jones even saying the club has "made it clear that the door is open for ... a return to the Cowboys.'' But as a free agent, he can go anywhere he chooses. Allen's agent, Marvin Demoff, did not immediately return a call to The Associated Press seeking comment.

Fabini Signs With Dallas

Oct 21, 2014 11:44 AM

The Dallas Cowboys signed offensive tackle Jason Fabini to a three-year contract Saturday, a potentially key addition overshadowed by the signing of receiver Terrell Owens. The 6-foot-7, 304-pound Fabini likely will take over the right tackle spot that's been troublesome pretty much since Erik Williams was in his Pro Bowl prime in the 1990s. Rookie Rob Petitti played there last season and struggled, especially when extra blockers were used to help other linemen.

Owens Joins Cowboys

Oct 21, 2014 11:44 AM

The Cowboys announced their signing of Terrell Owens on Saturday, marrying one of the National Football League's most glamorous franchises with one of its most controversial players. Owens' three-year contract is potentially worth $25 million. The signing of Owens sets up what could be a compelling study in outsize personalities: Coach Bill Parcells and Owens, who alienated two previous employers, the San Francisco 49ers and the Philadelphia Eagles. "I'm a star among stars now," a smiling Owens said at a news conference at the Cowboys' headquarters in Irving, Tex. Owens, 32, called the troubles he has had with previous teams "life-learning experiences."

The sources told the Morning News a formal announcement was expected in the next few days. No terms of the agreement were reported.

Keyshawn Released By Dallas

Oct 21, 2014 11:49 AM

The Dallas Cowboys released receiver Keyshawn Johnson on Tuesday, avoiding a $1 million bonus he was due and possibly creating room for Terrell Owens. Johnson is a favorite of coach Bill Parcells and was only scheduled to make $1.5 million this season. However, he was seeking an extension and a raise, and the Cowboys apparently wanted to keep their options open -- perhaps especially because T.O. is available. "Keyshawn is one of a handful of the top competitors that have ever played for the Dallas Cowboys," Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said in a statement. "The more he was a part of our team, the more we appreciated him as a player."

Glover, Nguyen Out In Dallas

May 4, 2014 12:19 AM

The Dallas Cowboys have released defensive tackle La'Roi Glover and announced the retirement of linebacker Dat Nguyen. Glover, a 10-year veteran who signed with the Cowboys as a free agent in 2002, was cut Thursday. Glover made his sixth Pro Bowl last season, finishing with 26 tackles and three sacks. He has 71? career sacks, second all-time among defensive tackles behind Warren Sapp (84?). Glover had a career-high 76 tackles in his first season with Dallas in 2002, two years after he set a New Orleans record with 17 sacks. He had 21? sacks in four seasons with the Cowboys. Nguyen, an eight-year veteran out of Texas A&M, led the Cowboys with 172 tackles in 2001, his first full season as a starter. He was slowed by a neck injury last season, playing his last game Thanksgiving Day against Denver.
