Anderson Continues Hot Play, Browns Handle Ravens

Jul 5, 2014 9:46 AM

Picked on for years, the Cleveland Browns finally gave a black eye to one of the NFL's biggest bullies. Derek Anderson threw two touchdown passes, Jamal Lewis ran for one against his former team and the Browns, considered the 98-pound weaklings of the rugged AFC North, surprised the Baltimore Ravens 27-13 Sunday. With their second win over a division opponent this month, the Browns (2-2) looked nothing like the inept team that was embarrassed 34-7 in their home opener three weeks ago by Pittsburgh.

Kellen Winslow Dislocates Shoulder

Jul 19, 2014 7:59 PM

Browns tight end Kellen Winslow missed Wednesday's practice because of a partially dislocated left shoulder, and his status for Sunday's game against the Ravens remains unknown. "It's pretty sore," said coach Romeo Crennel, referring to Winslow's injury. "We have to try to get that soreness out and try to get him some strength." Winslow injured the shoulder Sunday when he fell on it after a 23-yard reception on the Browns' final drive in Oakland. He came out for the final three plays and was examined on the sidelines.

Turnabout Is Fair Play For Raiders

Oct 22, 2014 4:01 PM

As Phil Dawson lined up for the potential game-winning field goal, Oakland coach Lane Kiffin told the line judge he wanted to call a timeout before the kick. After watching Denver coach Mike Shanahan use that same strategy to beat his Raiders in overtime last week, Kiffin figured he'd try it himself. The move paid off when Tommy Kelly blocked Dawson's last-second attempt to help the Raiders snap an 11-game losing streak with a 26-24 victory over the Browns on Sunday.

Bizarre Week In The NFL: Browns 51, Bengals 45

Oct 31, 2014 5:44 PM

Another bizarre week of twists, turns and turbulence in Cleveland ended with more absurdity: Browns 51, Bengals 45. Derek Anderson threw five touchdown passes, Jamal Lewis rushed for 216 yards and the Browns, so desperate after being embarrassed in their home opener that they traded their starting quarterback two days later, outlasted the Bengals and Carson Palmer 51-45 on Sunday.

Browns Trade Frye To Seattle

Sep 8, 2014 12:45 AM

Cleveland has traded former starting quarterback Charlie Frye to the Seattle Seahawks for a sixth-round pick, FOXSports.com has learned. With Frye out of the picture, it should only be a matter of time before first-round pick Brady Quinn gets the nod as the starter. The Seahawks have been in the market for a backup quarterback, which will free them up to use Seneca Wallace in other positions around the field. The Browns will bring back Ken Dorsey, who was with the team in training camp, to serve as their third quarterback.

Is Quinn On His Way In As Cleveland's QB?

Aug 2, 2014 2:04 AM

For one of the rare times in his football life, Brady Quinn was a game-day spectator. Instead of a helmet, he wore a brown-and-orange baseball cap. He carried a clipboard. Quinn stood on the sideline and watched, maybe for one of the last times. Tagged since April's draft as Cleveland's quarterback of the future, Quinn could soon become the Browns' man of the moment. In the aftermath of a 34-7 drubbing against Pittsburgh in Sunday's season opener, Cleveland coach Romeo Crennel didn't rule out Quinn making his NFL debut this week against Cincinnati.

Big Ben Throws For 4 TD's, Steelers Smash Browns

Sep 14, 2014 3:39 AM

The Steelers haven't changed a bit under Mike Tomlin. In their first game in 15 years without iconic coach Bill Cowher stalking the sideline, the Steelers looked the same while smashing and slapping around the Browns -- again. Ben Roethlisberger threw a career-high four touchdown passes and Pittsburgh rolled to a 34-7 win in Tomlin's NFL coaching debut and embarrassed the Browns, who had a disastrous season opener at home.

Browns Sign Punter, Waive Cornerback

Oct 23, 2014 2:26 AM

The Cleveland Browns made a last-minute roster move yesterday by signing punter Paul Ernster and waiving cornerback Jereme Perry. Ernster will play today against the Pittsburgh Steelers on short notice as Browns punter Dave Zastudil was ruled out because of a sore back. Zastudil was injured in practice Monday, and his status was up in the air all week. Ernster was one of five punters the team worked out last week. He played last season for the Denver Broncos, averaging 41.7 yards a punt.

Frye To Start At QB For Browns

Sep 9, 2014 6:41 AM

Charlie Frye will start at quarterback for Cleveland's season opener Sunday against the Steelers. Frye, who started 13 games last year, entered training camp slightly behind Derek Anderson in the quarterback competition. But he outperformed Anderson during preseason games and directed one touchdown drive against the Broncos. Anderson produced no touchdowns when he led the offense during preseason games.
