Quinn Leads Browns To TD In Win Over Bears

Sep 28, 2014 5:59 PM

Brady Quinn says he's ready to make an impact for the Browns and he did in the preseason finale. When his next opportunity comes remains to be seen. The rookie from Notre Dame was efficient, if unspectacular, leading the Browns to a touchdown in a 19-9 victory over the Bears on Thursday night. Now, it's up to coach Romeo Crennel to decide if Quinn's time is sooner or later. Although incumbent Charlie Frye is expected to start the opener against Pittsburgh, Quinn's time will come for the Browns (3-1).

Documents: Tim Couch Used Steroids And HGH

Nov 24, 2014 9:32 PM

Documents obtained by Yahoo! Sports indicate quarterback Tim Couch had regimens that called for the use of anabolic steroids and human growth hormone while he attempted to revive his NFL career after a three-year hiatus from the league. The regimens outlined in the documents with Couch's name printed across the top called for extensive use of drugs banned by the NFL. Couch, the No. 1 pick in the 1999 NFL draft, told Yahoo! Sports he briefly took HGH ? which is banned by the NFL ? in hopes the drug would help him recover from shoulder surgery. But he denied using steroids or any other banned drugs and said he had never seen the documents.

Quinn Once Again Effective For Browns

Jun 19, 2014 8:01 PM

Preseason games don't count and neither do touchdowns that are erroneously ruled incompletions, as Brady Quinn discovered Saturday night. Quinn was efficient and effective for the second straight game, leading the Browns past the Broncos 17-16, although it probably wasn't enough to win him the starting job over Charlie Frye.

Quinn Has Strong Debut

May 7, 2014 8:26 PM

Brady Quinn's biggest throw could turn out to be a monkey wrench. With flashbulbs popping all around the stadium, Cleveland's rookie quarterback tossed two fourth-quarter touchdown passes in his first NFL exhibition game and looked better than any Browns quarterback in a 23-20 loss to Detroit on Saturday night. Quinn's performance -- 13-of-20 for 155 yards in the final 9:20 -- may muddle Cleveland's starting quarterback competition between Charlie Frye and Derek Anderson, who were both booed by Browns fans. Asked if Quinn is now in the mix to be his starter, Browns coach Romeo Crennel didn't say no.

Quinn To Make Debut This Weekend

Oct 1, 2014 5:26 AM

Brady Quinn is still hanging around and waiting for the Cleveland Browns to call his name -- on game day. The high-profile rookie, who stayed on the sideline in Cleveland's exhibition opener last week, is expected to make his NFL debut -- probably a brief one -- on Saturday night for the Browns, whose quarterback competition is nearing a conclusion without him even in the conversation or debate. Quinn will likely get his first action late against the Detroit Lions, who considered picking the Notre Dame quarterback in April's draft before selecting wide receiver Calvin Johnson at No. 2 overall. Quinn, though, slid to Cleveland at No. 22, and although the Browns mortgaged part of their future to get him -- trading a 2008 first-round pick to Dallas -- they're in no hurry to rush him onto the field.

Quinn Watches, Frye Plays Better Than Anderson

Oct 1, 2014 5:44 AM

The coin flipped in Charlie Frye's favor, and the rest of the night went his way, too. Frye played better than Derek Anderson in their competition to become Cleveland's starting quarterback and the Browns got a late kickoff return for a TD in a 16-12 win over the Chiefs on Saturday. Rookie Brady Quinn stood with a clipboard and studied his Cleveland playbook during his first NFL preseason game, watching as Frye and Anderson duked it out for a job the former Notre Dame star hopes to someday own.

Browns Flip Coin To Determine Starting QB

May 4, 2014 6:29 PM

The Browns will try to make heads or tails of their muddled quarterback competition tonight in the preseason home opener against the Kansas City Chiefs. Literally. Browns coach Romeo Crennel said he will flip a coin to determine if Charlie Frye or Derek Anderson will start. "I think that's the fairest way because no one knows who's going to start ahead of time," said Crennel. "They'll both play the first half and alternate with the first team." Which quarterback will get to make the call? "Maybe we'll do rock, paper, scissors," kidded Crennel.

Quinn, who was on his way to Cleveland to join his teammates on Tuesday, had been working out at an athletic training facility in Arizona while his contract was being negotiated.

Frye Listed At Top Of Browns' Depth Chart

May 31, 2014 4:41 PM

Pressed to file a team depth chart to comply with NFL guidelines, Browns coach Romeo Crennel said he would list Charlie Frye first at quarterback and Derek Anderson second. "I don't know what you'll read into that," he said. You might assume from the depth chart, then, that Frye would start the first preseason game against Kansas City on Saturday night.
