Panthers Don't Want To Trade DeAngelo

Sep 12, 2014 9:38 PM

When told that the Detroit Lions were in need of running back help and asked if they'd called the Panthers about Williams, who has one year remaining on his contract, John Fox said: "We have not received any phone calls," Fox said at a media breakfast for NFC coaches at the league's annual meetings. "He wouldn't be one of the guys on the top of my lists to deal (away). We've had no conversations about any of our backs." Fox said the Panthers were committed to keeping Williams and Stewart, who last season became the first pair of teammates in NFL history to each rush for 1,100 yards in the same season. "We're not looking to get rid of those guys," he said. "They're both very, very capable and, in my opinion, if you're going to lean on the run game, you need more than one."

Smith: Carolina's Roster Lacking In 'A Lot Of Areas'

Aug 2, 2014 4:28 PM

Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith has acknowledged that the team has some holes on its roster. "As of today, if the season started, I think we would be down," Smith said Tuesday. "We don't have a bona fide backup quarterback. We don't have a guy that we consider to step in for Muhsin (Muhammad)'s spot. There are a lot of areas, as of today, that we're missing. "As of right now, I know it's an unfinished product. So I really can't right now say, 'All aboard, let's move out' or 'Hey, let's get nervous.' " Smith lost long-time quarterback Jake Delhomme, who signed with the Browns after the Panthers cut him loose. Carolina also saw defensive end Julius Peppers sign with Chicago.

Vick Wants To Play For Panthers

Aug 6, 2014 4:37 PM

Michael Vick is open to playing for the Panthers. "If I could play for any team in the league, it would probably be two teams. But if I had to pick one, it would probably be the Carolina Panthers," Vick said during an appearance on Atlanta's Gangsta Grillz radio show. Vick, who did not reveal the second team, was asked why he had Carolina No. 1. "Well, you know, it's close to home. I like the uniforms. You get to play against Atlanta twice a year," he said. "Ain't nothing better than playing against your former team, right? So, yeah, that would be a good look. It would be a good look." Vick is still under contract with the Eagles.
