Ravens Agree To Terms With Grubbs

Ben Grubbs agreed to a five-year contract with the Baltimore Ravens yesterday, ensuring he will be the team's first first-round pick since 2001 to report to training camp on time. Grubbs's contract is worth approximately $8 million with $5.2 million in guaranteed money. He is expected to compete for the starting right guard position.

Former Ohio State quarterback Troy Smith was one of four rookies the Ravens signed to three-year contracts Tuesday. The defending AFC North champions also signed U. of Maryland offensive tackle Jared Gaither, who was a fifth-round supplemental pick. Yamon Figurs was also signed as a wide receiver and return specialist, and linebacker Prescott Burgess was also signed, the team said.

Turn the pages, and there are pictures of Katy wrapping her arms around running back Musa Smith, being kissed by middle linebacker Ray Lewis and huddling with tight end Todd Heap. ?Katy has become our little cheerleader,? Smith said. ?She?s always rooting for us.? And the Ravens have been rooting for her. Katy, a 9-year-old Ravens fan from Bel Air, Md., has Angelman syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that affects the nervous system and causes frequent seizures. As a result, she communicates mainly through pictures and gestures.

Ravens Select Maryland's Gaither In Supplemental Draft

The Ravens chose Jared Gaither in the supplemental draft Thursday. The Ravens selected Gaither, a Maryland tackle, 31st in the fifth round. "Jared has a chance to play in this league, even at a high level," Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome said in a statement. "It would have been interesting to see how high he would have gone in the draft had he played one or two more seasons at Maryland." Gaither started 17 of his final 21 games at right or left tackle as a freshman and a sophomore at Maryland.

DUI Charge Against McNair Dropped

The drunken-driving charge against Ravens quarterback Steve McNair was dropped Tuesday because a related DUI charge against his brother-in-law was reduced to reckless driving. McNair was a passenger when Nashville police stopped his pickup truck May 9 for speeding. The former Titan was charged because police said McNair allowed his vehicle to be driven by someone who was inebriated, brother-in-law Jamie Cartwright.
