Ranking The NFL's Oldest, Youngest Starters By Team

Oct 31, 2014 2:22 PM

The Atlanta Falcons, San Diego Chargers and Baltimore Ravens have the three oldest collections of starters in the NFL.

The Kansas City Chiefs, Seattle Seahawks and Cincinnati Bengals are the youngest.

Former Vikings head coach Bud Grant had a popular saying that "for every young guy you start, you lose a game."

Pete Carroll worked for Grant early in his coaching career, but has had one of the youngest teams in the NFL during his tenure with the Seahawks.

"I was of that mindset in classic fashion until I had to be in charge of calling all the shots and then it just flipped in me that we don't know where we're going unless we find these guys out," Carroll said. "One of the really exciting things about playing guys early is ... by the middle and to the end of the season, you’ve developed players that fit into your rotations now that add to your depth and also add to the opportunity to not over-play your older guys."

Below is a full list with the rank in offense/defense in parenthesis.

1. Atlanta Falcons (2/5)
2. San Diego Chargers (7/3)
3. Baltimore Ravens (1/15)

Cardinals Remain Only Team That Hasn't Selected Starting QB

Jun 9, 2014 10:15 AM

The Cardinals are still not ready to name a starting quarterback in preparation of their Sept. 9 opener against the Seahawks.

"I have the sense that everyone is expecting a starting quarterback announcement [Monday]," Ken Whisenhunt said. "We don't have one for you."

Whisenhunt added that he doesn't expect either quarterback to play in the team's preseason finale at home Thursday night against Denver.

That leaves two days of full practice and one walk-through to further evaluate Kevin Kolb and John Skelton.

Cardinals Delay Decision On Quarterback

Jun 9, 2014 4:36 PM

Ken Whisenhunt is not ready to name a starting quarterback, but the Cardinals coach indicates a decision could come soon.

The team opens the regular season in two weeks.

"I'm sure I'll get asked that question again," he said. "The next time I think maybe I'll have a little more information."

John Skelton and Kevin Kolb have been competing for the job. Neither has excelled.

Bears, Packers, Steelers, Raiders Rated As Having Best Uniforms

Nov 30, 2014 8:24 AM

The Bears have the best uniforms in the NFL, according to Paul Lukas of Uni Watch.

"True, the helmet design is starting to look a tad dated," writes Lukas. "But the striped sleeves, striped socks (now a rarity in the NFL, alas), unique number font, and even the perma-memorial to Papa Bear all score major points, and the Bears may be the only team in the league who look as sharp on the road as they do at home. The cream of the NFL crop."

The Packers, Steelers, Raiders and Eagles round out the top-five.

"Just suit up, baby," writes Lukas about the Raiders. "Silver and black look just as good today as they did when Al Davis came up with them. There's probably some marketer out there who wants the team to dress up like the fans in the Black Hole (and hey, that actually could be fun as a one-off thing), but you don't mess with something this elemental. Also: The Raiders are among the few NFL teams that wisely have declined to adopt the new Nike collar format."

Beanie Wells Has More Rust Than Expected

Nov 26, 2014 9:16 AM

Beanie Wells made his preseason debut on Thursday night, his first appearance in a game since Week 16 of last season.

Wells had knee surgery in the offseason and the team has been conservative in using him this preseason.

Wells started and gained 12 yards on six carries against Tennessee.

"I have more rust than I thought, but it felt good to be out there," he said. "I've got to pick my legs up a little more, get more comfortable with being out there. I always need the preseason because of how rusty you get, and I hadn't played football since Dec. 24.

"It's progress, definitely progress."

Skelton Likely To Start For Cardinals At QB

Aug 4, 2014 1:28 AM

John Skelton will start at quarterback in the final preseason game for the Cardinals.

Ken Whisenhunt claims that it is simply Skelton's turn in the rotation, but logic says otherwise.

Kevin Kolb has struggled and if he had a chance to win the starting job Whisenhunt would be giving him time with the first-team offense.
