Cardinals DT Eason Sheds 40 Pounds

Oct 11, 2014 9:29 AM

Cardinals defensive tackle Nick Evans feels quicker after shedding some weight this offseason. Since entering the NFL, Eason has steadily gained weight. He started his career at 290 pounds and has gained about five pounds in each of his ten seasons. Last year, forced into the starting lineup because of injuries to teammates, Eason realized he was too heavy. "I realized that I could probably help myself and extend my career if I lost a little weight," he said. He changed his diet and took up boxing. "I like the sport of boxing and I saw how well-conditioned those guys are in," Eason said. "If you don't believe it, try to box three minutes. That's a long time when you're fighting." Eason says he's down to 282, about a 40-pound difference from last season. The last time he weighed as much: "Probably my junior year in college," he said.

Kolb, Skelton On Even Playing Field In Arizona

Oct 11, 2014 9:28 AM

Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt tells Jim Rome that the competition between quarterbacks Kevin Kolb and John Skelton will start as evenly as possible. "That's the question that's going to be answered through the workouts this spring and in training camp this summer," Whisenhunt said. "They've both been working hard at it. It's been good to get out on the field and actually work on techniques and fundamentals with these guys. At times last year they both showed they can do good things. But consistency at that position is something we've got to improve on. So hopefully the competition between both of them will sharpen up one of them enough that he'll be a good starter for us."

Oct 31, 2014 6:50 AM

Kevin Kolb, who had a disappointing first season with the Cardinals, is eager to prove his worth in Arizona. In addition to committing $19 million to the quarterback over his first two seasons, the Cardinals also sent cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie to the Eagles to acquire him. "I'm as anxious for this year as I've ever been. I'm looking forward to proving this move was right," Kolb said. Kolb missed seven games with a foot injury and a concussion. Even when he was healthy, Kolb didn't perform up to expectations.
