Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have agreed to a four-year extension that voids a one-year extension. Brady's original deal with Tampa Bay was $50 million over two seasons.

The move saves the Buccaneers $19 million against the cap this year and ties Brady to the franchise through 2022.

Brady, 43, has previously said his goal was to play until age 45, but he said during the week of the Super Bowl that he would now consider playing beyond 45.

Buccaneers, Lavonte David Agree Upon Two-Year, $25M Deal

Mar 10, 2021 7:57 AM

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have agreed to terms on a two-year, $25 million deal to bring back Lavonte David, according to sources.

The deal includes $20 million guaranteed.

News of the agreement came just hours after the Buccaneers used the franchise tag on Chris Godwin.

Entering Tuesday, Tampa Bay had just $15 million in salary-cap space, but they were able to get creative and use three voidable years in David's contract to spread his cap number more evenly, so he'll only count $3.5 million against the salary cap this year.

Buccaneers To Use Franchise Tag On Chris Godwin

Mar 9, 2021 1:43 PM

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will use the franchise tag on Chris Godwin.

The tag will close $16.5 million and they also won't be able to use it on Shaq Barrett, who earned $15.8 million last season under the tag.

Both Barrett and Lavonte David will come free agents.

The Bucs will need to make a series of cap-saving moves to retain these players, as they had only a projected $15 million in salary-cap space before tagging Godwin.
