'76 Bucs Know What Lions May Face

Oct 10, 2014 11:48 AM

The 1976 Tampa Bay Buccaneers set the modern standard for NFL futility by going 0-14 more than three decades ago, so they know what the winless Lions are facing. "I would like the torch to be passed," Pat Toomay, a defensive end for that Tampa Bay team, added. "At the same time, you don't want to wish that on anybody. "By the time we got to the last game of the season, we had so many injuries that we didn't feel we had much of a chance. Everybody was so sick of the season that they showed up packed and ready to get out of town," said Toomay.

Raheem Morris To Replace Kiffin At Tampa Bay

Oct 5, 2014 5:33 PM

Secondary coach Raheem Morris will take over as defensive coordinator of the Buccaneers in 2009, ensuring continuity next season with Monte Kiffin leaving the NFL to join his son, Lane, at the University of Tennessee. If the Bucs (9-6) don't make the playoffs, Sunday will be the 68-year-old Kiffin's last game in Tampa Bay. "He's been with me a long time and he's had a lot of success here. He's had his hand in a lot of real good things," Coach Jon Gruden said, adding he wanted to end speculation about Kiffin's successor and whether the Bucs will continue to run the Tampa 2 scheme. "I like this defense. I believe in it and certainly believe in Raheem Morris. I believe he'll be outstanding."

Will Buccaneers Re-Sign Antonio Bryant?

Oct 5, 2014 5:32 PM

Buccaneers' wide receiver Antonio Bryant has made a strong case for the team to re-sign him with his current contract expiring at the conclusion of the season. "You can't deny that this guy has done things here in Tampa that have never been done before," Coach Jon Gruden said, referring to the receiver's three straight games with more than 100 yards receiving. "This last three-game stretch is amazing. ... We're hoping we can keep him around here. I'm sure he's going to have a lot of people who are going to be interested in his services. I'm really happy for him. It's all come together for him."

Peterson: Tampa Bay Tried To Hurt Me

Oct 5, 2014 5:42 PM

Vikings running back Adrian Peterson claims that a member of the Buccaneers tried to hurt him when the teams played on Nov. 16. "I was being stood up by three or four defenders, and the guy just came out of nowhere and intentionally went for my leg," Peterson said this week. "I felt it, and I watched it over and over again. "He intentionally went for my leg and tried to take me out. It was by the grace of God that my foot wasn't stuck in the grass and was able to give. I looked at that play and really started thinking that, 'Hey, whether you believe it or not, guys are out there trying to take you out. So you got to be smarter and protect yourself.' " Peterson did not name the player, other than to say his jersey number was in the 50s. All six Bucs defensive players with numbers in the 50s are linebackers.

Bucs' Garcia Could Miss Game Against Falcons

May 16, 2014 11:24 PM

Tampa Bay quarterback Jeff Garcia could miss Sunday's game against the Falcons with a calf injury. Backup Luke McCown took first-team practice reps for the second straight day Thursday. "I see that as a possibility," Coach Jon Gruden said. "We'll do the best we can to do what's right. We'll talk to the player that's injured, talk to the training staff, the people that are experienced and educated enough to make these calls. Obviously, you need your best players to win at this time of year."
