Chris Godwin Says He Would 'Play On' Franchise Tag

Feb 26, 2021 8:17 AM

Chris Godwin has said he wants to return to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

If the Buccaneers don't sign the receiver to a long-term deal, the franchise tag is a possibility for Godwin.

"Yeah, I mean, the way I look at it, similar to like a lot of guys. Obviously, we all want to have long-term security, we all want to be able to take care of the people that we love So, that's the ideal situation. But, you know, a franchise tag is not something that I can control. If that's what keeps me here, then that's what it is," Godwin told the NFL Network.

"And I'll play on it and go back to war with my guys. Like I said, I love it here in in Tampa, I love what we have building and I would love to stay."

Godwin, a 2017 third-round pick, played out a four-year rookie contract in which he garnered $3.2 million over four seasons.

Jason Licht On Tom Brady Extension: We'd Like To Keep This Going

Feb 24, 2021 8:10 AM

Jason Licht has indicated that an extension is possible for Tom Brady coming off the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' Super Bowl victory.

Before the Super Bowl, Bruce Arians said he wouldn't be surprised if Brady signed an extension to keep him under contract beyond the 2021 season.

"It's a possibility," Licht told The Rish Eisen Show. "He certainly didn’t look like he slowed down any this year. That’s a possibility and we’ll have to see how that goes. ... It appears that he really had a good time this year winning the Super Bowl. Likes our organization, likes our coaches, likes our head coach and ownership and we certainly love him. Usually when you have those two things going for each other, it’s a match made in heaven so we’d like to keep this going."

Brady is set to make $25 million during the 2021 season with a cap hit of $28.375 million after earning $3.375 million in incentives.

Buccaneers View Blaine Gabbert As Potential Successor To Tom Brady

Feb 12, 2021 8:55 AM

Tom Brady has no plans to retire, but the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have an eye on who his successor might be.

Jason Licht believes Blaine Gabbert, Brady's backup this past season, could eventually take over for Brady.

"First of all, I love his energy," Licht said. "I've really gotten close to Blaine this year just being on the sidelines. He's a really smart guy but he is one guy, my scouts and I talk about this a lot, he's just one guy that I love to watch throw every day in practice because he has got a cannon. He's very accurate with his throws as well and he can just really whistle them in in tight windows. If he had been forced to play, he played in the Detroit game, but if he had been forced to play more I think that he would have really opened a lot of people's eyes about how talented he is, especially being in the same system for a couple of years."

Gabbert, 31, appeared in four games this past year, completing 9-of-16 passes for 143 yards and two touchdowns.

Shaq Barrett Is Ready To 'Break The Bank Now'

Feb 16, 2021 8:37 AM

Shaq Barrett wants to stay with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and is now making it clear that he wants to get paid.

"I'm most definitely looking forward to getting a long-term deal done," Barrett told Adam Schein of SiriusXM Mad Dog Radio.

"I feel like it's time for me to break the bank now, and I most definitely want to do that to be able to set my family up better and most definitely going to keep producing so it's not like anything is going to fall off. I still think I got a lot left in the tank. I'm still getting better, actually. I'm still learning like just still learning like week in, week out. And there's like, as you can see as the season progressed like. ... I ended the season playing the way that I wanted to play. And you can see that I did progress throughout the season and I'm still progressing."

Operating under the one-year franchise tag in 2020, Barrett made $15.828 million. He's entitled to a 20-percent bump if tagged again in 2021. That's $18.99 million.

Bruce Arians' Family Urged Him Opt Out Before Season

Feb 10, 2021 8:46 AM

There was a very real chance Bruce Arians didn't coach the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a Super Bowl victory this season.

Arians revealed that his wife and kids urged him to consider opting out of the 2020 season because they were concerned about him contracting COVID-19.

"Some people said, "Dad, you need to opt out this year," and I was like, 'No way. I'll risk it. It's going to be a magical year,'" Arians said.

The 68-year-old said he was extremely careful during the season.

"I went to work, came home," he said. "We haven't gone out to dinner since July. We have all these open-air restaurants here, but I just couldn't risk it. Both of us are high risk."
