Portis To Visit Seahawks
Clinton Portis will visit the Seahawks this week, according to an NFL.com report.
Portis has played in just 13 games in the previous two seasons combined.
Andre Gurode Visits Seahawks
Andre Gurode, who was cut by the Cowboys on Monday, visited the Seahawks on Tuesday, according to a source.
Gurode is a five-time Pro Bowl center.
Seahawks offensive line coach Tom Cable was on the coaching staff at the University of Colorado, where Gurode played before being selected by the Cowboys in the second round of the 2002 draft.
According to a source, six teams have contacted Gurode since his release.
Bengals Acquire Jennings From Seahawks
The Seahawks have traded former first-round pick Kelly Jennings to Cincinnati for defensive tackle Clinton McDonald.
Jennings, a cornerback, was the 31st overall pick in the 2006 draft out of Miami.
McDonald was a seventh-round choice of the Bengals in 2009.
Smith, Curry Have Contracts Reduced By Two Years
It has been a bad week for players that were taken early in the 2009 NFL Draft.
The Bills cut Aaron Maybin, who was selected 11th two years ago, while Andre Smith and Aaron Curry had their contracts reduced.
The Bengals opted not to pick up the option on Smith's contract, reducing it from six years to four. Cincinnati avoided a $4.75 million option bonus in the tackle's deal.
Curry, a linebacker, recently agreed to a new deal with the Seahawks that cuts his rookie contract from six years to four.
It will make Curry an unrestricted free agent after the 2012 season.
Pete Carroll Backs Tarvaris Jackson
Seattle's offense struggled yet again on Saturday, but coach Pete Carroll still backs quarterback Tarvaris Jackson.
The Seahawks didn't score in the first half of their 20-7 preseason loss to the Vikings.
"I'm not in that mindset at all," Carroll said when asked if he has considered replacing Jackson with Charlie Whitehurst.
"I love that Charlie played well, and I think we need to give Tarvaris a chance to play well, too, with the guys around him. I felt like he was out there fighting for it, and he did a good job of competing."
Rice: Vikings Didn't Even Try To Re-Sign Me
Seahawks wide receiver Sidney Rice says the Vikings never even tried to negotiate a new deal with him as a free agent.
Seattle and Minnesota will square off in a preseason game on Saturday night.
Rice signed a five-year, $41 million deal with the Seahawks.
"If you hear from them throughout the rest of the season telling you they are going to be in touch, are going to negotiate and it never happens, you've got to wonder -- do they really want me there or not?" Rice told the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
"I just didn't feel it ... It came down to Seattle showing me they wanted me to be a part of the program."
Seattle's Okung Returns To Practice
Seahawks left tackle Russell Okung has returned to practice in limited fashion with coach Pete Carroll saying Okung is one or two weeks away from full participation.
Okung was in a helmet and shoulder pads for Thursday's practice, doing work in individual drills just a week after injuring his left ankle.
Okung's Ankle Injury Not Serious
The Seahawks are relieved that Russell Okung's ankle injury isn't as serious as initially feared.
On Saturday, Okung walked around with just the slightest noticeable limp and without a protective boot sheltering his left foot.
Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said Okung sprained his left ankle in Thursday night's preseason opener against San Diego, but the injury is not nearly as severe as the high ankle sprains that plagued Okung's rookie year.
"Russell is not nearly as bad as it looked. He's walking around fine, not in a boot. We're not talking about how long yet but it's nothing like the one's he had," Carroll said.
"I don't know if we can call it mild or not, but he was out walking around and moving, and he's doing the toe raises and stuff so he's way more active than he was at any time early in those other ankle injuries that he had."
Bears, Tatupu Share Mutual Interest
There is mutual interest between free-agent linebacker Lofa Tatupu and the Bears, according to a league source.
Tatupu, who was released by the Seahawks over the weekend, has also been linked to the Raiders and Redskins.
He has a strong connection to the Bears.
Chicago assistant general manager Tim Ruskell drafted Tatupu out of USC in 2005 when Ruskell was the general manager of the Seahawks.
Zach Miller Gets $34M From Seahawks
The Seahawks announced Tuesday afternoon they had reached agreement with tight end Zach Miller. A source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter it is a five-year, $34M deal with $17M guaranteed.
