Mora Hired As Seahawks Secondary Coach

Less than three weeks after being fired as coach of the Falcons, Jim Mora was hired Sunday to be the Seahawks' secondary coach. Mora, the 45-year-old son of former NFL coach Jim Mora, went 26-22 in three seasons with the Falcons, but was fired Jan. 1 following another second-half collapse and off-field distractions that infuriated team owner Arthur Blank.

Hasselbeck Has Shoulder Surgery

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck had surgery Thursday to repair torn cartilage in his non-throwing shoulder, and the team expects him to be fully recovered by training camp. The Seahawks said Thursday night that the surgery to repair a 3-year-old torn labrum in his left shoulder "went well" and that last season's Super Bowl and Pro Bowl passer "should be ready for training camp at worst, if not before" July.

Hasselbeck Played Final Eight Games With Broken Fingers

Matt Hasselbeck revealed Monday that he played the final eight games of Seattle's season with broken fingers on his non-passing hand. Hasselbeck said he sustained non-displaced fractures of two fingers on his left hand during a win against Green Bay on Nov. 27. That was his first game back following a four-week absence from a sprained knee.

Gould's Overtime FG Sends Bears To NFC Championship

Robbie Gould hit a 49 yard field goal in overtime to send the Chicago Bears to the NFC Championship Game with a 27-24 win over Seattle. The field goal was setup by a 30-yard completion to Rachid Davis. Thomas Jones scored two touchdowns for the Bears while Shaun Alexander rushed for two of his own for the Seahawks.

Seahawks leading receiver Darrell Jackson just might play Sunday against the Bears after all. Although Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren worried about Jackson's turf toe ligament strain Monday morning during his weekly KIRO radio show in Seattle, by afternoon Jackson had convinced his coach he could play in the NFC divisional playoff game at Chicago. "I've got to see how productive (he can be)," Holmgren cautioned.
