Jets Playing To Win, Not Punting On 2020 Season

Jul 28, 2020 8:51 AM

The New York Jets traded Jamal Adams for a return that included draft picks, but they still plan to win this coming season.

The Jets went 6-2 in the second half of 2019 when they could have tanked.

"You're gonna see a team that's very hungry and has a lot of desire to prove that a 6-2 finish was not a fluke against 'soft schedule,'" Joe Douglas said. "You're going to see a team that has a lot of fire and motivation. So I would disagree that we're punting on 2020."

The Jets are projected by the betting odds to be one of the worst teams in the NFL this season.

Jets GM: Jamal Adams Didn't Talk His Way Out Of New York

Jul 28, 2020 8:37 AM

Jamal Adams was outspoken during his contract dispute with the New York Jets, but he didn't talk his way out of town, according to general manager Joe Douglas.

Douglas said the safety's outspokenness had no impact on the decision to trade him to the Seattle Seahawks.

"I want to make it clear: I never promised an offer to Jamal or his agent, nor was I ever dishonest with any communications with their camp," Douglas said.

The Jets sent Adams to the Seahawks for a package that includes 2021 and 2022 first-round picks and veteran safety Bradley McDougald.

Adams, 24, has two years remaining on his contract for a total of $13.5 million. He will play this season under his existing contract.

Seahawks, Jamal Adams Agreed To Table Extension Talks For 2020

Jul 27, 2020 1:27 PM

After lobbying for a contract extension with the New York Jets, Jamal Adams agreed to table extension talks with the Seattle Seahawks for this year.

The Jets traded the All-Pro safety to the Seahawks on Saturday.

It was initially unclear if Adams facilitated the trade by verbally agreeing to an extension with Seattle. However, the two sides reportedly agreed to table talks until 2021.

Adams is only guaranteed to earn $3.59 million in 2020.

If Seattle is unable to sign Adams long-term, they'll have paid a premium for one season. They sent safety Bradley McDougald, a 2021 third-round pick and two first-round picks in exchange for Adams and a 2022 fourth-round pick.

Seahawks Trade Two First Rounders To Jets For Jamal Adams

Jul 25, 2020 8:27 PM

The Seattle Seahawks have acquired Jamal Adams from the New York Jets for first round picks in each of the next two seasons.

The Seahawks will send Bradley McDougald, first round picks in 2021 and 2022, and a third round pick in 2021.

Adams requested a trade one month ago.

"While we had maintained our interest in Jamal Adams having a long successful career with the Jets, we know it's important to be prepared and willing to adjust to new offers and circumstances," Douglas said in part in a statement. "As I have always said, my job is to listen to calls and this offer was one we could not ignore."

The Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers were also in discussions on a trade.

Jets' Jamal Adams Blasts Adam Gase, Joe Douglas

Jul 24, 2020 9:54 AM

Time doesn't appear to have healed the wounds between Jamal Adams and the New York Jets.

Adams requested a trade last month due to frustration over the lack of a new long-term deal.

The safety told the New York Daily News that Joe Douglas expressed a willingness to trade him under the right circumstances, but has yet to give Adams' side permission to seek out a potential swap.

Adams noted that one big reason he wants out is he doesn't trust Adam Gase as a leader.

"I don't feel like he's the right leader for this organization to reach the Promised Land," he said. "As a leader, what really bothers me is that he doesn't have a relationship with everybody in the building.

"At the end of the day, he doesn't address the team," Adams added. "If there's a problem in the locker room, he lets another coach address the team. If we're playing sh---y and we're losing, he doesn't address the entire team as a group at halftime. He'll walk out of the locker room and let another coach handle it."

Adams, 24, also said Douglas initially said he'd look to extend him, but the general manager has since deflected at every turn.

Woody Johnson Under Investigation For Racist, Sexist Remarks

Jul 22, 2020 4:09 PM

Woody Johnson was under investigation by a State Department watchdog following allegations that he made racist and sexist comments while serving as an ambassador to the United Kingdom.

Johnson allegedly argued that Black fathers don't remain with their families, calling it the "real challenge."

Johnson also would comment on women's appearances at the embassy and public events and said that he preferred working with women because they were cheaper and worked harder.

The NFL is aware of the CNN report and referred questions to the State Department, a league spokesman said.

Johnson purchased the New York Jets in 2000 for $635 million.
