Darrelle Revis: Jets Should Show Class And Retain Me

Dec 30, 2016 8:50 AM

Darrelle Revis says the New York Jets hold the cards on his remaining with the team, but that it depends on whether they treat his "situation with class or no class."

Revis told the New York Post that he wants to retire with the Jets and isn't approaching Sunday's finale as his last game. The cornerback carries a heavy contract that appears to many as an overextended deal at this point in his career.

"Would I love to be here? Yes," Revis said. "Will I be back? That's a great question. My thing would be this: Do the New York Jets want to treat my situation with class or no class? With me being one of the best players in the history of this franchise, do they want me to retire here or not retire here?"

Brandon Marshall's 'Boisterous' Halftime Rant Bothered Teammates

Dec 29, 2016 7:24 AM

Brandon Marshall delivered a fiery halftime rant on Saturday that irked some of his New York Jets teammates, according to team sources.

The incident may have raised tensions in the locker room.

The Jets were trailing the New England Patriots 27-0 at the time of Marshall's rant. While he didn't engage in verbal altercations with any individuals, sources said, he sparked what was described as a raucous locker room.

"When we're getting blown out at halftime, there's no reason to be fighting amongst each other," Calvin Pryor said. "I think that's why guys were upset, because we needed to be fighting against the Patriots, instead of the Jets."

Marshall's halftime tirade might explain why Sheldon Richardson ripped him after the game.

When reporters told Richardson that Marshall had described the 41-3 loss as "embarrassing," Richardson replied, "He should be embarrassed. ... No reason. He just should be. He knows what he did."

Sheldon Richardson Continues Feud With Brandon Marshall

Dec 25, 2016 11:26 AM

Sheldon Richardson ripped Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall, and defensive end Leonard Williams said the team wasn't prepared, using the phrase "going through the motions."

The Marshall-Richardson feud stems from earlier this season. It was sparked again Saturday, when Marshall said the 38-point loss to the Patriots was "embarrassing."

Minutes later, Richardson was asked by reporters if he felt the same way.

"He should be embarrassed," said Richardson, confirming he meant Marshall.

A few days ago, Marshall apparently angered Richardson by commenting on Richardson's vulgar Snapchat video, which drew the wrath of Bowles.

Echoing Bowles' comments on the video, Marshall called it "unacceptable."

"I don't care what that guy says," Richardson said, commenting on whether he was upset by Marshall's take on the matter.

Todd Bowles Hospitalized, May Miss Saturday's Game

Dec 23, 2016 8:55 PM

Todd Bowles was admitted to a hospital Friday afternoon with an undisclosed illness and didn't travel with the Jets for their road game Saturday against the Patriots.

Bowles began throwing up, experiencing chest pains, back pains, and after he was given medication, he could not keep it down, which is when Jets officials became extremely concerned and took him to the hospital.

The fear was Bowles was suffering a heart attack but doctors ruled that out.

If Bowles cannot coach on Saturday, Mike Caldwell will assume duties on an interim basis.

Only Steelers Rank In Top-10 In Offense, Defense DVOA (Infographic)

Dec 21, 2016 10:38 AM

The NFL has very teams this season that excel in all facets of the game. Further evidence of this issue shows itself in the fact that there is only one team ranking in the top-10 in both Football Outsiders' Offensive and Defensive DVOA: the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers are 9-5 after winning five straight games and must beat the Baltimore Ravens in Week 16 to ensure their place in the playoffs. Pittsburgh ranks third in total DVOA and first in Weighted DVOA.

Last season, the Seattle Seahawks, Carolina Panthers, Arizona Cardinals, Cincinnati Bengals and Kansas City Chiefs ranked in the top-10 on both sides of the ball. The Chiefs are the closest team to joining the Steelers in the top-10 in both Offensive and Defensive DVOA at 13th and 12th.

The Dallas Cowboys and New England Patriots rank first and second overall in DVOA as they rank second and third, respectively in Offensive DVOA but 20th and 19th in Defensive DVOA. The Atlanta Falcons rank first in Offensive DVOA, 27th in Defensive and fourth overall. The Green Bay Packers and Oakland Raiders have similar splits as the Cowboys and Patriots, while the Seahawks, Baltimore Ravens and New York Giants are the inverse of those teams with top-5 defenses and offenses below the NFL mean.

Sheldon Richardson May Be Disciplined For Video

Dec 19, 2016 12:53 AM

Sheldon Richardson faces possible discipline from the New York Jets after making a profanity-laced Snapchat video in the locker room before Saturday night's loss to the Miami Dolphins.

In the seven-second video, Richardson uses four expletives, including a derogatory comment about women.

Todd Bowles, made aware of the video late Sunday morning, was appalled by Richardson's comments. He said he will meet "very soon" with him to discuss it.

Bowles didn't rule out in-house discipline.

"We'll take care of it here," he said. "That's not something we condone or we encourage. That's unacceptable."

Jets 'All Over' Mitch Trubisky

Dec 14, 2016 8:13 PM

The New York Jets are believed to be very high on Mitch Trubisky of North Carolina, who could be the top quarterback selected in the 2017 NFL Draft.

"They got their eyes set on the North Carolina quarterback," one rival scout told the Daily News. "The Jets are all over this kid. All over him. They'll probably deny it if you ask, but they love that kid. That's their guy. They're not going to get him though, because I think that kid is going to get over-drafted."

The Jets believe their quarterback of the future isn't yet on their roster.

The Jets selected Christian Hackenberg with a second round pick in 2016 but he isn't close to being ready.

Bryce Petty kicked off his four-game audition with an uneven performance in a come-from-behind win in San Francisco a few days ago, but team decision makers aren’t sold that he's the right guy for the job in 2017.

Jets Bench Ryan Fitzpatrick, Will Start Bryce Petty Rest Of Season

Dec 6, 2016 9:00 AM

The New York Jets pulled Ryan Fitzpatrick in favor of Bryce Petty on Monday night and will start Petty in the final four games of the season.

The Jets (3-9) have lost four straight after losing 41-10 to the Indianapolis Colts.

"The plan was for us to start him the last four games anyway, so we just started a half early," Bowles said of Petty. "We could have won 45-0, and he was going to start the last four games. That's the slot we had penciled in for him. That's a good time to take a look at him."

Bowles said he isn't sure if the No. 2 quarterback will be Fitzpatrick or rookie Christian Hackenberg, who has yet to dress for a game.

Report: Darrelle Revis 'Doesn't Want To Play Anymore'

Dec 2, 2016 8:29 AM

A confidant of Darrelle Revis told the New York Daily News that the cornerback's decline in play is tied to a lack of desire.

"He's done," the confidant said. "If he had his way, he'd be done right now. He doesn't want to play anymore. He's made a lot of money."

Revis didn't sound committed to football earlier this week when asked about his future, saying, "we'll see how it goes."
