Lions View Themselves As Buyers, Not Sellers At Deadline

Oct 31, 2015 3:15 PM

The Detroit Lions aren't looking to sell off any players at the trade deadline.

"We’re going to be probably more buyers than sellers, and we’ve had some dialogue already about some guys around the league," Martin Mayhew said via the Detroit Free Press. "So we’re actively looking at those situations."

The Lions won't look to trade Calvin Johnson or Matthew Stafford.

Mayhew called any thoughts of moving on from Stafford "comical," according to the team’s website and said that if he had "22 Matthew Staffords, we’d win a championship every year."

Martin Mayhew: I'm The Lions' GM Right Now

Oct 30, 2015 10:37 AM

Martin Mayhew has been general manager of the Detroit Lions for seven seasons and he's under scrutiny with the team off to a 1-6 start.

“I’m the GM right now and we’re going to play Kansas City,” Mayhew told reporters in England. “And I’m going to keep working until somebody tells me to stop.”

Mayhew said he doesn’t review his performance or status with the team’s ownership group on a weekly basis, but he knows they are disappointed and that the Ford family is very “passionate.”

Ameer Abdullah Trying To Regain Trust On Fumble Issues

Oct 18, 2015 3:26 PM

Ameer Abdullah is trying to regain the trust of Jim Caldwell after his fumbling issues resurfaced last week.

"Coach made the call to sit me down, which probably was the right decision," Abdullah said, via the Detroit Free Press. "The way the game was going, he probably felt like he couldn't trust me, so I'm just doing my best to regain his trust, as I know I can do."

Joe Lombardi confirmed earlier in the week that Abdullah will remain a fixture in Detroit's backfield.

"He's a young player, I don't think we banish him to the minors yet," Lombardi said. "You guys talk to him, he's a great kid, he's a smart player, he wants to do good. He's everything you want character wise from a football player. So I think that you kind of trust that he's going to keep working on it and get better."

Lions Not Considering Any Major Changes To Scheme, Personnel

Oct 13, 2015 11:26 AM

The Detroit Lions are 0-5, but Jim Caldwell isn't considering any major changes to their scheme or personnel.

"Because I think the major things are turnovers," he said. "That's one of the areas that you can see, it's a tremendous difference in terms of how many times we've turned the ball over."

The Lions had six turnovers in their Week 5 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

Detroit ranks 26th in overall offense, and its 30th in scoring at 16.6 points per game.

"I think you have to look at (the problems) and you have to consult with your staff and sit down and do that, which we'll do (Monday) afternoon and get with the players, make our determinations on what we want to adjust and change this evening and move forward."

K.J. Wright Should Have Been Flagged On Calvin Johnson Fumble Play

Oct 6, 2015 12:00 AM

K.J. Wright batted the ball out of the end zone after Calvin Johnson's fumble toward the end of the Seattle Seahawks' win over the Detroit Lions.

Wright committed an illegal bat of the ball, which should have given the Lions back the ball where they lost possession.

The Seahawks received the ball as a touchback.

Rule 12, Section 4, Article 1(b) applies the term “illegal bat” when “any player bats or punches a loose ball (that has touched the ground) in any direction, if it is in either end zone.”

An illegal bat is not a reviewable play.
