Golden Tate Denies Having Affair With Wilson's Wife, Fight With Harvin

Jan 16, 2015 7:17 PM

Golden Tate has denied long discussed rumors that he had an affair with Russell Wilson's ex-wife and that he and Percy Harvin had a physical fight before the Super Bowl.

Tate signed with the Detroit Lions in the offseason.

"Of course, things can never be that simple — multiple rumors circulated about my departure from Seattle — but fans need to understand football is also a business. After my four-year contract was completed, I signed a new deal with a new team. This process plays itself out with each and every player in the league.

"Unfortunately, I have since been harassed on social media over a multitude of reasons about why I left, none of which are true. It was profoundly disappointing, not only that these “fans” were circulating rumors about me, but more so how my reputation became tarnished in the process.

"I did not have an affair with Russell Wilson’s wife, nor did I have anything to do with his divorce. That is laughable for anyone who knows us. His ex-wife, Ashton, is still best friends with my girlfriend. Russell and I were good friends when I was in Seattle, on and off the field — he knows the rumors about me were unfounded, damaging to my reputation, and an attack on my character. Anyone who circulated that rumor was just plain irresponsible.

"There was also a social media frenzy concerning me and Percy Harvin. To set the record straight, I was not punched by Percy during Super Bowl week last year, nor did I have a black eye, as was speculated on by various Internet reports. I even saw a photo of my face that was photoshopped with a mark on it! Percy and I did have a confrontation, yes, but no punches were thrown, and it certainly never rose to the level that was erroneously reported by certain outlets. I highly respect his level of play. He’s one of the best in the game!"

Lions Open To Using Tag On Ndamukong Suh

Jan 8, 2015 7:05 PM

Martin Mayhew said the Detroit Lions are open to all options with defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, including potentially using the franchise or transition tags on the free agent-to-be.

"He certainly is a big priority for us and he's an important part of our football team the past five years and I think the world of him," Mayhew said.

Mayhew said he spoke with Suh on Monday and he is "looking forward to working with him" to try and get a deal done. Mayhew said the team would prefer to sign a long-term deal with Suh, who would be one of the most sought-after free agents in 2015 if he reaches March without a deal.

Head Of Officials: Crew Missed Holding On Controversial Play

Jan 5, 2015 7:57 PM

NFL head of officials Dean Blandino said Monday that the non-call on pass interference against Detroit Lions tight end Brandon Pettigrew by Dallas Cowboys linebacker Anthony Hitchens was debatable, but holding definitely should have been called on the play.

Blandino, speaking on NBC Sports Radio's "Pro Football Talk Live," said the officiating crew erred by announcing a penalty and then picking up the flag. Ideally, he said, the crew would have discussed the play and then announced that there was no penalty on the play. If the crew had handled the situation in this manner, "it would have mitigated some of the response to this," he said.

Blandino said that when he reviewed the play, it appeared as a "judgment call that could have gone either way." But he saw a clear "jersey grab" by Hitchens that should have resulted in a defensive holding call that "should have been called."

Ndamukong Suh Emotional As He Enters Free Agency

Jan 5, 2015 12:52 PM

Ndamukong Suh was emotional following the Detroit Lions' loss in the playoffs to the Dallas Cowboys.

Suh had to leave a press conference to gather himself.

“I’m just speechless,” Suh said after he returned to the podium to compose himself. “I feel like we played as hard as we could. We played very, very hard. We put it all out there. This team put it all out there.

“Like I said, I didn’t expect this outcome. It’s sickening.”

Suh will be a free agent this offseason after being the perfect player for Detroit's scheme on defense this season.
