Tyrann Mathieu Receives $265,000 In Upfront Money

Dec 16, 2014 6:11 PM

The Arizona Cardinals have signed Tyrann Mathieu to his rookie contract.

In addition to the $265,000 he receives upfront, Mathieu will receive conditional roster bonuses of $99,000 in 2013 and $102,000 in 2014, and a salary guarantee of $196,000 in 2014, according to a source.

If Mathieu is cut by the team for performance reasons in the first two seasons, he will receive the full sum. However, if Mathieu is suspended for drug violations he will not get all of the money, according to sources.

The Cardinals also offered bonuses designed to keep Mathieu away from his native Louisiana in the offseason.

Carson Palmer Believes Gay NFL Player Would Be Easily Accepted

Sep 3, 2014 9:14 PM

Carson Palmer said that he believes an openly gay NFL player would not receive any discrimination.

“In our locker room I think he would be accepted very easily,” Palmer said. “I’ve been around the league a long time and you play with a lot of guys from a lot of different backgrounds, and that’s just the world we live in. I don’t think there would be any issues in this locker room. I think guys would accept him. All the locker rooms I’ve been in, in fact, since I’ve been in the NFL, I think he would be accepted very easily.”

Palmer believes the decision of Jason Collins to come out as gay will make it more likely for an NFL player to follow suit.

“He’s opened the door and obviously made it easier for guys to follow in his footsteps,” Palmer said.
