Ron Rivera 'Beyond Frustrated' By Washington's Low Vaccination Rate

Jul 28, 2021 9:04 AM

Ron Rivera said he's "beyond frustrated" with the Washington Football Team's lower vaccination rate and worries about the potential impact it will have on their team.

Rivera said more than 50% of Washington's players have been vaccinated against COVID-19 as they reported to training camp Tuesday.

"We're not where we want to be," he said.

Rivera, who was diagnosed with a form of skin cancer last August and underwent treatments during the season, said he's immunodeficient.

"With the new variant, who knows?" Rivera said of the Delta variant. "When I'm in a group and the group's not vaccinated or there's a mixture, I put the mask on, and I do that for health reasons because nobody really knows. I have to do that. And I just wish and I hope that our guys can understand that."

Warriors Not An Option For WFT's New Name

Jul 14, 2021 9:55 AM

The Washington Football Team, which is choosing a new nickname and logo that depart from any "linkage to Native American imagery," will not consider "Warriors" as an option, according to team president Jason Wright.

Wright addressed the Warriors nickname because it had emerged as a possible new identity among Washington's fans.

"One might look at this name as a natural, and even harmless transition considering that it does not necessarily or specifically carry a negative connotation. But as we learned through our research and engagement with various groups, 'context matters' and that makes it a 'slippery slope,'" he wrote on the team's website.

Washington Football Team Receives $10M Fine By NFL

Jul 5, 2021 3:08 PM

Washington Football Team has been fined $10 million by the NFL as a result of the league's investigation into the team's workplace culture.

The money "will be used to support organizations committed to character education, anti-bullying, healthy relationships and related topics," the league said.

In addition, Tanya Snyder, who was named the team's co-CEO this week, will take over the day-to-day duties and represent the franchise at league functions for the next several months. Her husband, Dan Snyder, will focus "on a new stadium plan and other matters," the NFL said.

Lisa Banks and Debra Katz, who represent 40 former employees, said in a statement that the NFL chose to "protect owner Dan Snyder" and said the fine amounted to "pocket change."
