Former WFT Employees Want 'Findings Released'

Oct 28, 2021 8:36 AM

The attorneys for some former Washington Football Team employees have rejected Roger Goodell's reasoning for not making the investigation into the organization public, saying in a letter that their clients wanted anonymity but also a written report.

Goodell had said at the league meetings Tuesday that they did not release a written report into the nearly year-long investigation of the organization and owner Dan Snyder because some who were interviewed wanted anonymity and therefore no public report.

In a two-page letter to Goodell, Lisa Banks and Debra Katz stated that their clients -- they represent 40 women who made allegations of sexual harassment while working for Washington -- wanted only protection. They wanted the findings released.

The letter stated, "While many who came forward feared retaliation by Dan Snyder, and therefore requested their names be kept confidential, they never envisioned that all their efforts and the efforts of Beth Wilkinson and her team would result in no written report of findings, and no real accountability for Dan Snyder or the WFT. Had they known this, they would not have participated."

Congress Seeking Information From WFT Investigation

Oct 22, 2021 8:24 AM

Two House Democrats have sent a letter to Roger Goodell, demanding the NFL provide Congress with the results of the investigation into the Washington Football Team's workplace culture.

The five-page letter was written nearly two weeks after leaked emails led to Las Vegas Raiders coach Jon Gruden's resignation.

It also led to renewed calls for the NFL to release the findings of an independent investigation, led by attorney Beth Wilkinson, into Washington's workplace.

Adam Schefter Sent Unpublished Story To 'Mr. Editor' Bruce Allen

Oct 13, 2021 12:44 PM

In July 2011, Bruce Allen and ESPN’s Adam Schefter corresponded regarding a story related to the efforts to conclude the lockout. Schefter actually sent Allen the full draft of a story that Schefter planned to publish, for Allen’s review and approval.

“Please let me know if you see anything that should be added, changed, tweaked,” Schefter wrote. “Thanks, Mr. Editor, for that and the trust. Plan to file this to espn about 6 am. . . .”

ESPN released the following statement in response to that message: “Without sharing all the specifics of the reporter’s process for a story from 10 years ago during the NFL lockout, we believe that nothing is more important to Adam and ESPN than providing fans the most accurate, fair and complete story.”

It is widely considered beyond traditional journalistic practices for a reporter to send entire stories to a source for a review, fact-check or a proofread.

Oct 13, 2021 9:09 AM

The NFL Players Association plans to request that the NFL release the remainder of the 650,000 emails reviewed as part of the investigation into workplace misconduct with the Washington Football Team.

Leaked emails from that investigation that showed Jon Gruden used racist, misogynistic and anti-gay language led to the Las Vegas Raiders coach's resignation.

"We have had communications with the league, and the NFLPA plans to request that the NFL release the rest of the emails," NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith said.

Oct 8, 2021 9:02 AM

The Drug Enforcement Agency's investigation into Washington Football Team trainer Ryan Vermillion centers on the distribution of prescription drugs, according to sources.

As a trainer, and not a physician or nurse practitioner, Vermillion would not be allowed to give out prescription drugs according to federal law.

The DEA raided Vermillion's office at the Washington facility as well as his home last Friday afternoon.

Vermillion worked with Ron Rivera for nine seasons in Carolina and joined him in Washington in January of 2020.
